I've got plenty of faith in Cook and I really hope I'm wrong, but I've got a nagging feeling we're going to see the "bomb squad" players still under contract that nobody wants to buy rather conveniently having shown enough desire to be back in the frame as the weeks wear on.

We've cleared out 27 players that we could either release or get a price for, and we've only brought in six on permanent deals and one loanee. Five weeks until we're underway, we're still short of half a team, the "three, four, five" deals Ashton was on about the other week clearly didn't happen, and now we're sounding out Cook's old guard and potentially bringing in loans. Has he been a bit overzealous with the axe?

As I say, I really hope I'm wrong...but please, please not another season with Norwood and Jackson leading the line...

And good luck to him but if he's not interested in being here and wants to leave there's not much the club can do about it. It would be great if he changed his attitude and decided he wanted to stay but I think he's burnt his bridges............ Unless you know differently?

Not heard anything to suggest it has changed and him leaving seems most likely - no doubt fault on all sides going back to last summer but ultimately we have to move on.

I'm not sure whether I'm overly bothered either way whether Downes goes or stays. Definitely seems now like he's on his way regardless of what we might or might not think.

What I would like to know is WHY he wants to leave. I would have thought that with the new takeover, manager, players coming in etc that he would have wanted to be a part of it. So maybe he still doesn't believe in his heart that ITFC are capable of getting promoted next season despite all the changes? Or he just doesn't like Cook?

Or maybe Cook doesn't rate him or have faith in him enough to warrant going overboard in attempting to persuade him to stay because he thinks that the new recruits will be able to do a better job and wants shot of him asap? So he's now effectively in the same boat as Jackson?
