Here's my best effort. It emphasises belonging and following. The history, the difficulties, and hope for the next stage. No declarations of love for individuals. No hostages to fortune. I think it scans correctly (which is really important for a mass singalong) and I think I've avoided that horrible thing where sentence structure is artificially reversed to force a rhyme.

agree with this but he is unlikely to be in attendance to appreciate it. He needs to bloody write a dedicated tune for us.
