Cook should never have been sacked 21:57 - Dec 15 with 2322 viewsChocorange

1. The players came here for him , they signed for him and the respect they had for him as a manager
2. Promotions and play offs achieved , when given time!
3. His teams improve the longer he is there.
4. One transfer window , he knew where the problems were , and would have sorted it in jan.
5. Too many keyboard warriors / armchair fans who don’t go to games demanding him to go .
6. Since when have we beat two top teams away from home and scored 4 goals each time in a few weeks of each other ?
7. People say we didn’t beat West Ham and Arsenal kids, and Oldham and Newport and Barrow. ( how many of the first team played in those games ?? ) where were the cups on the priority list?
8. We had only lost recently in the league to Sunderland ( despite outplaying them) , Plymouth( could have won) I was at both those games , as were many others supporting Cook… and both were top 6 sides at very least when we played them … and Rotherham ..by far the beat team in the league .
9. No time , some people think this is McDonald’s and u can get results instantly
10. No management replacement lined up ..that’s down to Ashton.

Well you got what u wished for and caused …happy?

No,
Somehow it’s still Cooks fault despite performances against Charlton and Barrow and Wigan ( saved by Norwoods strike) being devoid of any sort of quality and being the worst of the season.

Absolute joke , you fans who wanted Cook out.

This is on YOU…..and Ashton!

No, it's a load of old sh!te. Cook put this squad together, he failed to ever really get them playing as a team, in recent weeks he had them actually playing worse and going backwards. He failed badly last season too. It was absolutely right that he got the sack and it was down to the board too, not to some fans criticising him on a messageboard.

Ahh the old last season chestnut to try and support your point of view…

Many of those players had failed twice , three times if u include the relegation , Cook did what needed to be done .

He didnt got it all right first time , but do u get everything right first time either ? Who does ?

And honestly is this any better …
Oh but u didn’t go to Charlton or Sunderland or Wycombe or Portsmouth , yet you can twist all of those to your own narrative or choose to forget them altogether.

And as for your first line … ever heard of time , how long did he have with the players he recruited … not last seasons …this bunch

Get yourself to Marcy Ds for your instant gratification next time!

Now you seek to bend the facts

You have caused this ….and Ashton ..I am not forgetting his major part in this.

1. The players came here for him , they signed for him and the respect they had for him as a manager
I don't believe this for a minute, they were achieving at their previous clubs under a different manager. Players are mostly selfish, want to perform for their own career, that won't have changed now.
2. Promotions and play offs achieved , when given time!
How long? Two seasons? Three?
3. His teams improve the longer he is there.
As above, do we want to wait three or four years for a promotion push?
4. One transfer window , he knew where the problems were , and would have sorted it in jan.
Like he did in the summer?
5. Too many keyboard warriors / armchair fans who don’t go to games demanding him to go .
I'll have to take your word on this
6. Since when have we beat two top teams away from home and scored 4 goals each time in a few weeks of each other ?
Not sure the relevance, but go on tell me.
7. People say we didn’t beat West Ham and Arsenal kids, and Oldham and Newport and Barrow. ( how many of the first team played in those games ?? ) where were the cups on the priority list?
The FA Cup was apparently quite high, according to PC
8. We had only lost recently in the league to Sunderland ( despite outplaying them) , Plymouth( could have won) I was at both those games , as were many others supporting Cook… and both were top 6 sides at very least when we played them … and Rotherham ..by far the beat team in the league .
Again, not sure what point you're making? We shouldn't be beating top six sides anyway?
9. No time , some people think this is McDonald’s and u can get results instantly
How long? This is division 3 and we are spending enormous amounts on wages comparative to most other sides.
10. No management replacement lined up ..that’s down to Ashton.
I don't disagree here completely, but in his defence if you back somebody to the extent Cook was you're probably not expecting such a spectacular failing. If this was another club (Derby for exmple in recent times) we'd be laughing hysterically at them.

Well you got what u wished for and caused …happy?

No, not really, but hopefully that will change now. Hopefully we can see some upward momentum at long last.

No,
Somehow it’s still Cooks fault despite performances against Charlton and Barrow and Wigan ( saved by Norwoods strike) being devoid of any sort of quality and being the worst of the season.
I wouldn't go so far to say it's still his fault, but to be fair he did assemble the entire squad.

Absolute joke , you fans who wanted Cook out.

This is on YOU…..and Ashton!

Yeah it's my fault, there you go. Come back and thank me when we finally get something to cheer about.

Thankyou haha , you’re good!

Based on what has happened since , this will be a lot lot longer than it would have been

Unless you are going to tell me you enjoyed the three errr impressive performances since?

And we were on terrestial TV tonight, you'd have thought that professionally they'd have wanted to showcase themselves. Failing to control a middling pace ball at the back to the extent that it actually nutmegs you, making silly soft passes that are easily intercepted, dithering on the ball etc are things I'd be embarrassed at if I did them in our over 65s walking football games!

Completely agree. Read a great piece recently about Warburton at QPR. He was close to sack and covid shutdown effectively saved him. Now look.

Cook had pedigree. There was some excellent football. To sack him without giving him one full season just bizarre. Ashton seems egotistical to me.

Indeed.
As in life, a fair size chunk of support want it all, and they want it now.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

People need to start taking responsibility for what they write on the internet.

Cool, I eagerly await you apologising for your behaviour towards fellow Town fans of late and you taking responsibility for talking squarely out of your rear.

Yes mate, you're right. I sacked Paul Cook. It was all me. And the rest of it is nonsense as well, by the way. Quit being a massive fanny. Cook takes most of the blame for where we find ourselves currently.

He had half a season, in which the only teams not in the bottom seven places of the table we beat were Portsmouth (who had won one and lost five out of the preceding nine games) and Wycombe. However well we played, we lost at Sunderland. Between Wycombe and the sacking, we scored seven goals in nine games (two goals in four League fixtures).

Where is the sign of even moderate progress in that?

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
