That's Ashton well and truly in charge then! 13:26 - Dec 16 with 4108 viewsgordon

If it turns out to be this Man U coach.

Our record with all-powerful Managers has been patchy at best in recent years. Maybe two half successes out of the last seven appointments?

Besides which, from that ManU thread somebody linked to, McKenna isn't seen by their fans as any shrinking violet.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

He kind of is in charge though, isn't he? Or are you just making a statement of fact?

In terms of the power base within the club - if an experienced manager who was having success at the club communicated to the owners that he was having difficulty working with Ashton, then conceivably the owners would intervene on behalf of the manager - but with a young, inexperienced manager who needs this to go well, Ashton will be able to call all the shots, that's all.

Agreed - the head coach should report to a director of football though - we don't have one of them, just Ashton.

I worry that this is exactly what Ashton wants. I have said previously, I wish he would just remain focused on contracts, stickers, cleaning the roof, catering and packing out PR.

This type of structure needs a DoF! Not a CEO who is a wannabe DoF

You decided your opinion and have spent the last few weeks twisting everything to fit in with it.

Isn't that basically what the new bloke from Bristol (the latest one) is - Director of Football Operations or something like that?

I’m a Bristol City fan, 1st post on here.
Feeling the pain for you lot currently as we had Mark Ashton in charge of Bristol City for years. There is not a good word I can say for this fraud. You have probably heard it elsewhere, but Ashton was responsible for selling off one of the best sides we had in many years for ££s profit and replaced them with total crap signings.
Ipswich need to be careful how much power Ashton is given as he fooled a lot of people at City for many years. Most City fans will tell you the same. We were glad to be rid of the idiot.

Don’t be fooled by the shiny suits and rhetoric he comes out with. Awful man management, lying to the fans, press, etc, the 1st on the bandwagon when things went well, the last to appear when times were bad.
He very nearly got us relegated last season and we are in a fight to stay up this season.
Beware of Ashton.

If Ashton is merely incompetent he'll be a massive step up on Marcus Evans. I know you probably posted with the best of intentions but we have so many fans who swallow every word, turn on Ashton and then twist everything to fit the narrative that it really doesn't help us at all.

Truly impaired.

Do you not think that if K-Mac (yes that's what I'm calling him, deal with it) was having success, but was having difficulty dealing with Ashton, that the owners wouldn't intervene in some way? If K-Mac (there, said it again) brings success, Gamechanger aren't just going to sweep issues with Ashton under the carpet and risk that success. I think they are probably grown up enough to deal with something like that. But, at the end of the day, everything you and I have said is complete and utter made up twaddle, based on a bit of guess work, personal opinion and not on a shred of facts or evidence. Suppose it hasn't done Boris any harm. Or the Sun newspaper.

Seems he is getting himself a whole lot of power here.

I had been thinking what a mouthful it would be to sing 'x and x and x and x out' when and if it all goes pear shaped but I guess we can shorten it to 'Ashton!'
