Do we buy more players in January or wait until the summer window? 12:52 - Dec 22 with 884 viewsMaySixth

Players are brought have to be fit, ready to go and usually fix an immediate problem - that's why a lot of clubs don't get involved as the value in the market is over-inflated

The summer window is when you plan and commit to structured, considered and long-term recruitment which is why we brought in players on multi-year contracts, wedded to a strategy with room for sell-on value

Do we gamble in January or do we let McKenna develop players on the training pitch and then attack properly in the summer?

The squad is huge - I think we see what we can McKenna can do with his coaching credentials first.

Can't see any position we desperately need to strengthen in although getting Walton in permanently would be a great addition

Clearly a few areas to strengthen but only a few. There are always deals to be done in Jan - players whose contracts expire in the summer etc going on the cheap

We don't want to get into the territory Evans & Lambert did, just stockpiling into an overinflated squad.

Think it will be dependent on who goes out before we look at who is coming in.

I think there will be changes. I can make a case for letting the following go: Holy, Coulson, Nsiala, Barry, Nolan, Jackson and Kenlock, provided we can add a left back/wing back, at least one CB, and another forward.

Would bring the squad size down by 3-4 players too. It also assumes Bonne, Walton and Celina remain with us for the rest of the season and no major injuries.

spot on. We have to be careful we don't take any silly risks with over-inflating the squad. As the poster above has said, we need to look at the situations with Bonne, Walton etc first and go from there.

It would be nice to clear out some of the deadwood though and make permanent additions to the spine of the team if possible, in preparation for the summer.

You have to balance any new arrivals with the fact it's going to take them 10+ games to actually get up to speed with the other players, ie you're back to the start of the season again. Maybe 1 or 2 to strengthen some areas but mainly stick with what we have unless some of the loans like Bonne have to go back.

I wonder whether we might see more of Pigott and Norwood over the festive period (Games permitting) with one eye on the Bonne situation.

It is clear McKenna has identified targets. What we don't really need is a half season loan unless they are likely to be available for us next season as well. It is so unlikely that we will be promoted this season that we should be building for next season not looking for any short-term fixes.

If Walton goes back there is an argument that we need a first team keeper and there is an argument that we need a back-up for him already. I don't think we want to be relying on either Hladky or Holy unless they are going to make a big step up from how they have performed so far.

I'd be actively looking to move, Nolan, Jackson, Nsiala, Barry, Kenlock & Coulson out.

But then there are the circumstances surrounding Walton & Bonne, we don't know how they will play out so will have to wait and see there.
