Must say altho it's Jan window which is usually quite difficult anyway, I wasn't expecting that sort of signing

Newcastle are desperate for a striker, so are prepared to pay £20m or so for a 30 year old. A desperate piece of short termism in an attempt to stave off relegation.

Absolutely, spending £25m on Wood is a joke.

Burnley paid £15m for him when he had never played in the PL - since then he has scored at least 10 goals very season for them

Although Burnley bought him at 25 / 26 when he was going to have a resale value after a few years (evidently), wereas Newcastle don't perhaps have that comfort. What a great signing for Burnley, comes in and scores 50 goals over 4 seasons before selling him at a profit that perhaps even accounts for all of the fees and wages they've ever spent on him. A free 50 goals. That's the way to do it.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up costing Newcastle £1m a goal, and that wouldn't be a bad result. Still, Newcastle are a different proposition to Burnley, they have to buy their way out of trouble and only have a few weeks to get the business done.

Yep, has turned out to be a good signing - but was a big risk then at that age and never played in top flight

It's not an incredible deal - but without the release clause there is no way Burnley would accept that price for him as it undervalues him and his impact

Exactly. And almost certainly relegates them.

I don’t see him as a long term solution, more to help them out of this hole they find themselves in. He won’t score a hatful of goals, but what he’s really good at is bringing others into the game which will help Joelinton, Saint- Maximin and Fraser and he provides that physical presence so they can mix their play up. At the end of the day, Newcastle need only to finish 4th from bottom this season and that is more than achievable with how the bottom of the table looks currently.

Personally I think his a excellent buy weakens Burnley a real handful in the air
53 goals in about 160 for Burnley 1 in 3
And if they get better in the future But stay up this season he will be worth every bean . Also if they go down he will get a hatful in the championship.

Paying £20m+ for a 30 year old striker, plus no doubt a big contract, is likely to be terrible business on anything other than a short term basis.

If it keeps them up and with all the financial trappings of the league, sponsorship and TV revenue that investment of £25m on Wood will be chump change.
