New road laws from this weekend on 23:43 - Jan 24 by ZXBlue | But dangerous too- because people who know the local road and can pass safely are ignorantly obstructed and then get impatient. If a car drove down the middle to stop you passing, they would rightly be criticised and probably done by the police if spotted. |
I don’t agree , things like blind bends it doesn’t matter if you know the road, it isn’t safe, so stopping the manoeuvre is the safest thing to do as a cyclist. Nobody is saying drive in the middle of the road, just use the whole lane if it is not safe for a car to overtake. Considering that if they do and it goes wrong you are likely at best seriously injured, it is just common sense and consideration for others, the delay for a driver is at worst a few seconds.

New road laws from this weekend on 20:21 - Jan 24 by jeera | May I ask from a cyclist's point of view, how long is acceptable to expect vehicles to wait behind on a narrow road? For example, a single track lane with a car behind. I used to cycle a lot when I was young, (before I could drive there wasn't much choice to be fair!), and wouldn't expect, say, for a motor to sit behind me for two miles until I reached the next junction and would pull over at the first reasonable opportunity. That's not to suggest I would want to be hounded by the vehicle either, but I do think there's a limit where common sense and basic manners should prevail over who has what rights. |
There are some very serious cyclists around Framlingham of a Sunday, they hunt in lycra packs.....wish they would just keep going back to London tbf. When not on bikes they hurtle around country lanes in fast tanks. And yes when on our family jaunts on bikes, not in lycra, we pull in at lay-bys. Failing that they could just use the even quieter back roads!

Don't think I said anything about overtaking in a dangerous place or a blind bend... I sat for 2 miles behind and ignorant muppet doing this. 2 miles with half a dozen safe places to pass.

Spot on. Using road position to prevent other road users from endangering your life is entirely appropriate in many circumstances, Next time you see parked cars and think you can squeeze through but are prevented by a motorbike right in the middle heading your way, it's probable he is doing exactly that. It is asserting your position, taking control and keeping yourself safe. I accept some road users dont like it but keeping yourself alive is more important than worrying about holding up impatient car drivers. Is why the rules are changing, to keep vulnerable road users safe.

Except when trying to pass a pack of 20+ London w@nkers say between Saxmundham and Framlingham....you ain't ever getting past. If only they would use the lovely country lane cycle routes, they don't even go fast!

You are in danger of going full on Farage / Factors in your impatience. Would you prefer these guys to be in cars polluting your fresh air? The peletons can be frustrating but hey ho, such is life :-)

Your definition of what’s safe in 2 tonnes of metal may differ from me on a bike, so who knows if you defining “knowing the roads” includes unsafe places to overtake or not, I won’t be giving you the chance. Sorry. Having said that I certainly would pull over than let someone wait for 2 miles, unless of course they are behaving like a chopper.

New road laws from this weekend on 09:18 - Jan 25 with 807 views | Coastalblue | How many motorists bother to look at the highway code again after they have passed their test? The arrogance of the average British motorist is breathtaking at times, matched only by the incompetence of many. Too many people treat life like they are starring in their own movie.

New road laws from this weekend on 09:18 - Jan 25 by LeoMuff | Are they on the A12 then ? Because if you are telling me the B1119 is a “main” road you are looking a bit silly ! |
Well that's all relative I suppose. That road is busier by the day especially at the weekends when they all pop up to play in their second and third homes and don't get me started on the Wickham Market and Aldeburgh roads....absolute mayhem. Isn't the A 12 a motorway? And anyway passing these peletons would be easier on there.

They keep shouting to each other about how much money they made trading in the City. Isn't this the point of a peleton? To be fair some are from Essex originally too
