If we don't sign anyone today. 13:40 - Jan 31 with 2578 views | OwainG1992 | How would you feel? On the back of the outgoings. I'm generally positive with the way the club is going but with Fraser being cashed in on and I want to see someone incoming today. The boy Matete would be ideal in my opinion. Not least the fact I see him being worth a fair bit in a couple years time.

If we don't sign anyone today. on 17:16 - Jan 31 with 636 views | DJR | I think I would be disappointed if we don't bring anyone exciting in. But perhaps it is a recognition that the club don't think the chances of the play-offs are high, so don't want to rush into signings that turn out to be wrong (as they appear to have done in the summer). Instead, they think McKenna should be given time to assess a reduced squad, with a proper promotion push next season with replacements where McKenna thinks necessary. And if we do make the play-offs because McKenna gets it right, that would be a bonus. There may also be FFP considerations.

Agreed , with the signing of Walton plus Fee and extension of Bonne to end of season perhaps there were trimmings needed to keep within FFP. Morsy is back after the next two games which are winnable so if we can win these two I do feel the schoolteacher has a tighter group to work with and very few outgoings in the summer if he is generally happy with progress.

I wouldn’t. The squad we have is way too big for this level. None of the players being shipped out permanently or on loan are first teamers and it’s not as if there’s a proper reserve league for some of them to play in. I hope they unload one or two more like Jackson. For me, now is not the time to bring in more players, unless somebody has been identified for the longer term. We’ve signed a good goalkeeper, extended Bonne’s loan and brought somebody in to cover at full back who’ll hopefully improve us when he settles. We also have bombsquad Norwood back in the fold and contributing which is sort of like a new signing. That’ll do for me.

Thinking about it further, you're probably right, although I suppose we could have tried to offload more players before bringing more in. But I do wonder whether the nature of the owners has also had a bearing. They clearly see it as a long term investment, but were prepared for immediate success to invest heavily in the summer, with the suggestion by Ashton of more in the transfer window. When things didn't work out, the manager was then changed. But it is not in the nature of a pension fund to keep on making what could be seen as rather reckless decisions, so maybe they are prepared to cut their losses for this season, and see how McKenna gets on, with a view to more investment for next season if necessary, once things become clearer.

The other factor is that Ashton made it clear that he doesn’t like the January window; that you often get over priced players that the selling club doesn’t want. That’s not always true as Marcus Stewart’s transfer shows, but I suspect the principle is sound.

There wasn't a window back then, Stewart signed in February.

If we don't sign anyone today. on 18:30 - Jan 31 with 517 views | MerseyBlue | I'll only be miffed because I always end up checking TWTD every 5 minutes on deadline day, think of the wasted hours. I can understand the thinking in trimming the squad down. My biggest worry is that we might quickly find ourselves in a pickle with injuries. I'd like a signing to get excited about but won't lose any sleep over it if we don't.

If we don't sign anyone today. on 15:02 - Jan 31 by BonneNIL | Matete is bang average. We will need better if we are to go up, just another wage on the books without any real benefit again. This shows you just how wrong we got it in the summer and we've reverted back to type. We're a merry-go-round club, churning out managers and players without absolutely no real structure or plan going forward. Really poor from Gamechanger/Ashton so far, it's just Evans all over again. We'll clap our way to another relegation soon enough, this is the new Ipswich Way. |
I think you might be onto something here.

If we don't sign anyone today. on 20:47 - Jan 31 with 443 views | skinnybob72 | Signing Walton on a permanent deal was the best signing Town could make this window. I think that with 19 new signings in the summer there is still a need to make that work and of course there is the new manager. See how the second half of the season goes and add to the squad in the summer if need be. Onwards and (hopefully) upwards.
