Pigott 16:08 - Feb 27 with 2086 viewsVeggie

Just watched this video of him at Wimbledon. He looks fast and confident. I say we should just give him a run of games to get him playing like this.

Unfortunately we don't have enough games to give him a run.

We have 11. He can’t do worse than than Bonne or Norwood.

We could make a similar argument for all 4 of our strikers, I think?

Jackson's the only one who doesn't seem to be playing with pressure.

None of our strikers are scoring. I'd play Aluko Chaplin and Celina as a front three. All have goals in them and Chaplin is lively in and around the box.

How many goals have the three of them scored recently?

Bonne’s has loads of chances. Pigott has been treated harshly with only 7 starts this season. He is a proven goal scorer in this division - he needs to start more games.

Put it this way. If he was still at Wimbledon and firing in the goals, we’d be saying how we need someone like him in the team. We have him, might as well play him.

Celina scored last week. Chaplin has a good record considering he isn't played as a Striker.

The argument for Pigott is that he’s the only one who at the moment is contracted to be here next season. I don’t think he has had a proper run to prove himself. He may not suit our style of play long term but let’s give him a chance. I thought that he played ok against Burton.

Pigott's had 11 starts in league and Cup this season, plus another 14 sub appearances. All of those are opportunities to show what you can do.

Bonne's had 2 starts in our last 6, same as Pigott.

They're both struggling with the pressure of having to perform in irregular appearances and need a goal. Give either an extended run and they might discover some form and might not. I don't see why it's any likelier in Pigott's case than Bonne's.

(IMO Bonne's got in more goalscoring positions, but looks like he has the yips real bad, Pigott's barely getting into games but maybe his brain doesn't look quite as fried in front of goal, so toss a coin. Jacko's the only one who looks actually on it)

Have to admit, this has been my thinking too.

Could be wrong here but wasnt celina playing as the central stiker when he got the third against Burton?

If so, he showed good striking instincts to get the other side of the last man and stay onside. Could do worse than him I reckon!

That must be a stunt double, as we’ve not seen anything like that intent here. He must be suffering from Sam Parkinitis.

Could do worse. It’s not just the lack of goals - none of them are able to hold the ball up either. Take away the goals and Jackson, oddly, probably has the most to offer as his movement can stretch teams (but not so useful against teams who sit deep).

We're not doing dress rehearsals for next year quite yet. We should still be picking whoever we think will help us win maximum points this season.

I'm extremely sceptical of the "proper run" idea. He's been fit and playing football regularly, he's not coming into the first team cold and he's getting chances to play. He's got to actively take one to get an extended run.
