Handful of British soldiers reported to have made their way to Ukraine 16:53 - Mar 10 with 2992 viewsbluelagos

What do we think of what they are doing and the fact they will face a court martial as/when they return?

I dunno mate, that seems a bit fanciful but what do I know?

For a start that would take some level of thought and I'm losing faith as we speak.

More importantly, if there were special forces there in covert missions it would probably be best to keep them covert.

Indeed, but if they were captured the govt can say they were “volunteers “.

Like you say probably fanciful, but seemed odd. That said, I read that Little Vlad is recruiting mercenaries of his own from Syria. Must be getting desperate!

I blame the media for the reporting of them and potentially alerting others of their presence. I can't see why that isn't clear. Their protection and that of the UK.

I really don't know how you've got from that to this "that is exactly what Putin is using to control the population".

Also nobody gave soldiers permission to go at all Chelters so I've no idea where you got that from.

The thread is of course about British military, not the public.

I don't know how many ways to word the same thing.

Liz Truss said that she would have every sympathy with any British people going out to Ukraine to fight, and would understand.

She is the Foreign Secretary.

Her comments were rowed back slightly to "only people who are trained should go".

Which means British ex-military have permission to go, and won't face criminal charges on return.

Those currently serving aren't allowed to just go and decide to fight in another theatre of war, for another army, when they feel like it, of course, but the Government definitely gave permission for British nationals to join the Ukrainian defence forces.

"Piss poor from you"

What are you on about? You understand that a good percentage of this country, including in the military are as thick as two short planks don't you?

You mention 'a good percentage...'. Would that be the 52%? (and several of them in HM's government).

Why do people I normally like keep telling me things I already know?

I am already aware of what Truss said, I live here, I have 2 TVs, a radio, I learned to read at a young age.

The thread is about serving military personnel. It's in the title:

"Handful of British soldiers reported to have made their way to Ukraine".

Why do people queue up on here to score points on trivialities, semantics and any other technicalities they can find in any nook or cranny?

British soldiers, not civilians, not ex-soldiers.

And that's no reason to report it happening for goodness' sake either way.

Edit: There you go, they've even put it in the article for you, look: "A small number of serving British personnel are believed to have gone absent without leave to join the resistance".

You'll be telling me next how I'm wrong for not finding Josh Widdecombe funny and how I must have got that particular personal view from reading a tabloid I've never read in my life or something.

Fair play to them they are showing more balls than NATO are showing. Putin needs to be stopped now. We should have acted when he annexes Crimea.

I take it you'll be going to the frontline then?

I saw on instagram that one my friend's boyfriend's has just flown out last night but he's a PT and a former Army Medic. He's only going out to offer medical assistance I think. Brave.

That's a massive over-reaction!

I was simply delineating the "evolution of Government policy" on this, which (eventually) involved specific wording on military training.

And then agreed with you that of course that doesn't involve serving soldiers.

I was going to use that as a board to jump off to criticise Truss' original remarks, but we did that at the time, so didn't bother.
