"...employees have not, in this country, indeed throughout much of the world, received some of the same benefits and protections that exist otherwise for workers and this simply not good enough and it's a practice we have been seeking to end," said the staunch Brexiteer and free market enthusiast.

This has nothing to do with Brexit.

Irish Ferries did something similar in 2005 despite being in the EU.

A shame to see people using the misery of sacked workers as a political football.

"Some of P&O's ferries are registered in Cyprus, meaning they do not have to pay the minimum wage required by UK law."

Now what trading block might Cyprus be part of. More weird EU neo Liberal love ins in evidence?

Then if that is the case then our HM government is completely free to make a stand to do something about it. If the existing laws are not strong enough then perhaps the government will change the law for the future.

The way it’s related to Brexit is because people were sold the lie that things like this were caused by being in the EU.

Who would have done such a thing?

https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/rmt-reiterates-vote-leave-message/

But come on Swansea, this would have happened whether we were in the EU or not. So trying to link it to Brexit is disingenuous.

Ever wonder why all the cruises have far eastern crew usually?

Because the boats are registered elsewhere and the crews are paid sometimes as little a £1 per hour.

P&O cruises which are a separate company pay as little as 75p per hour.

I have a feeling that was aimed at my previous arguments on here about tube workers - not fair if so. (If not, forgive me). This is totally different.

People should just boycott P and O.

Of course it could have happened in either, I never said otherwise. We also had the power to make the laws to prevent it whether in the EU or not (as some EU Member States have done). That's the link - leaving the EU was never going to protect British workers. Quite the opposite. Leave EU was funded by secretive Foundations and Think Tanks with vested interests in supporting business owners over employees. That was the whole point of it.

So nothing to do with leaving the EU then?

Btw, Leave EU were not the official leave campaign.

Anyway, basically you’re just trying to dig out Brexit when it is completely irrelevant to what happened with P&O.

You're trying to argue against a point that I didn't make.

I've already said what I think the link to Brexit is. It's part of the wider picture of big businesses and the super rich influencing policies that make British workers worse off. This proves the lie that (made by all the various campaigns) the EU was to blame for things the UK could have prevented ourselves (had we wanted to).

Indeed. My initial post was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of those who are actively seeking to undermine workers' rights outside of the EU now being shocked and appalled that workers' rights are now being undermined by big business.
