Interesting commentary in the Guardian today, which I totally agree with.

Basically, there’s no point in discussing anything with Putin and slime like ballbag face Lavrov that appears at the UN etc. they are what they are and are not in the least bit interested in peace. They love the west running round in blind panic at the threat of nuclear war. They love ‘negotiating’ and being praised for allowing grain exports of stuff that isn’t theirs and should never have been stopped in the first place. They love talking and blaming the terror of Ukraine while raining missiles down on Kiev. Double talk keeps the western faint hearts confused and responding.
Time to end the debate. They are addicted to lies and war. As the article says, tell a lie often enough it becomes the truth. Time to throw out all their embassy staff, diplomats etc from all like minded countries and to isolate Russia. When Russian diplomats walk in the room, people who loathe what Putin is doing should walk out. There’s nothing to discuss. Let them know they’re on their own.

I haven't read The Guardian article yet but the snag I see with totally isolating Russia is that it abandons the millions of Russians who are not on Putin's side. Also I think that the position that Erdogan appears to have adopted will undermine any unilateral close down of diplomatic relations, even by the United States. I also doubt whether France would ever see itself as a central key to diplomatic solutions (even if they are not.) |  |

There is only one diplomatic solution. Ukraine acknowledges it is not a country and ceases to exist. It’s what Putin wants and believes. Nothing less will do but he will play the reasonable man card, little meaningless offers here and there, while threatening nuclear war and firing missiles at Ukraine until he is stopped. Misinformation, lies and force against a tired west.
Putin is still just about the most popular leader with his own people in the world. Most believe state propaganda. The Russian people have to start asking questions, just as some are beginning to do as the conscripts’ bodies come home. Isolation will just encourage those questions.
Erdogan? Wants it both ways. Geographical importance to NATO is about the only reason why this odious dictator has not been told to do one. He can be levered. Meanwhile India and China play honest neutral while absorbing all that lovely cheap Russian energy.
France - Macron has done nothing to offend Putin and has options to restart business in Russia as soon as the noise dies down. France is only a player (a little one) as long as he’s of use to Putin. | | | |

They are a bunch of thieving, murdering, rapists. Scum. But the world is immune to it now. It’s ignored in the hope it goes away. Putin is still being legitimised in a way by the west (people talking to his people, responding to the latest lies and threats) which means the narrative pace is still with Putin, even if his military dies like flies and their stolen land shrinks.
Until Putin is confronted rather than leaving Ukraine on life support, the death, injury, transportation and sheer misery for these people by this animal will continue. | | | |
