I would have thought the boos tonight were more because Southgate put a CB on whilst 3-0 down. Could be wrong.

Nah, its because football social media and fans have decided to bully Maguire.

Pogba has left Man Utd so it's now a different big money signing who's fault it all is, Maguire is the man! I think he had a couple of poor games for them and the media start talking about his poor form, the more it's talked about the more people believe it. They've been rubbish but it's the manager and all the players who've been bad.

I agree last night though I thought the boos were down to the decision to bring on another centre back at 3-0 down

I imagine it’s because Man Utd paid £80m for him and at times he looks like an absolute donkey, yet Southgate continues to play him regardless of domestic form. Compare him to Van Dyke who was bought for a similar amount (less in fact) and has helped to transform Liverpool. It’s actually a good thing that fans can see through the emporer’s new clothes sometimes.

Still if his football career crumbles, he can always go back to his previous role as Paul Heaton of the Housemartins/Beautiful South.

Great point apart from this thread coming on the back of a game in with Maguire didn’t start and was only brought on late because another centre back was sent off, when we were already 3-0 down

However, as one analyst (can’t recall who) pointed out relatively recently, United’s lack of a decent midfield often leaves the defence exposed and in many cases, Maguire steps out to fill the CDM role and try and clear up and gets himself out of position. As a result, he’s often trying to do two jobs. He has been a decent player (remember the World Cup where he was feted as ‘Slabhead’) but something has been going very wrong at his club for a long time.

However, as with most people in any walk of life, I’m sure he performs much better with people jeering and howling at him. I know it certainly helps my day.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Maguire has never really been poor for England. I guess it goes to show house loudly the Man U fans still shout.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
