Paul Cook’s Chesterfield were 2-0 up. They just conceded twice in six minutes.

He’s made an unbeaten start to the season so a year on, some things clearly do change…

Despite the mess he caused here, I’d like to see him do well.

I honestly don’t mind the tenure he had here. He was bold and brave enough to give us a fresh start. It didn’t work out but it’s given KM an exceptional foundation to build from.

I enjoyed the bit where he turned a side on the cusp of the playoffs into a mid table one, then repeated the trick with a whole new set of players.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Underrated view.

Big call to rip the squad apart, and it bloody needed it.

Mental ain’t it, the squad change would have happened regardless.

Cook goes into the history books as one of the worst managers in our history just like the two that proceeded him and people still defend him.

Bloke looks and sounds non league and is rightly where he belongs imo.

Agreed. Cook did well to bring in the foundation of this team. Shame he lacked the managerial expertise to get the best out of them. Wish him well.

Totally needed it. We were stale as you like. He didn’t manage to make it work but the players he binned off were well past their sell by date and the lads that came in are, and are proving to be, top drawer for this league.

We’ve now got the manager to make it work.

These players have openly said only reason they signed was because of Paul Cook.

Christian Walton
Sam Morsy
Lee Evans
Conor Chaplin

Have a wee bit of respect.

It's also worth noting Cook wanted Jacobs (doing well at Portsmouth) over Edwards. And he didn't have Walton, Edmundson & Morsy until game 6 I think it was. Absolutely certain we would've been up there had they all had a pre season and started the season with us. Losing his dad in September I think was huge and possibly still is, who knows.

Bottom line is McKenna is a genius right now and Cook leaving was without a doubt the right thing. For whatever reason I warmed to Cook more than any since Magilton and still think Ashton gets it light for the 2021/2022 shtstorm.

I agree with your second and third sentences, but I do mind the tenure he had here. Cooke was wasteful and crude in the way he went about it and quite frankly out of his depth here.

With PC what you see is what you get. He is a good man who tried his best, but I’m glad he’s gone. KM feels a far better fit and in tune with what the owners are trying to do.

I wish Cooke well, as I do most people who move on from the club.

How do you rate the “the worst in our history”? Win %? Final league position? Situation and circumstance inherited? Money spent? Club infrastructure? Sounds subjective to me and Cook isn’t the worst in any of those categories. He’s code on a few but not the worst.

Well league position taking into account money spent. That’s a pretty good measure of how well a manager does and on that measure Cook trumps any of the other hopeless Pauls to the title of biggest failure.

If you read my post it says one of the worst in our history, not the worst.

I don’t have the stats to hand but apart from Paul Hurst I don’t imagine there’s many of our managers with a worse win percentage.
