Athletic Article on our start to the season on 11:17 - Aug 25 by BlueBadger

I say this with the greatest of fondness and concern, but I think Phil should delete the thread.
Think what might happen If Unstableblue reads that article - there's a good chance he'll w@nk himself to death.

That's a lot of words to say 'yes, it's ultimately an utterly meaningless term'.

BB I think you're just toying now for the bantz.

I'm with Unstable here. McKenna is not just a technical manager, he is one of the very best technical managers. I'm not a football coach by a long chalk, but I am a scientist/engineer. The term technical means the same in science and engineering as it does in football. A technical manager is one who applies science and technology - using the stats. Analysing patterns, the success rates of long, medium and short passes, all the %s of what results in a strike on goal, or a break-up of the opposition. McKenna doesn't just coach it from a textbook, he analyses the opposition before each game, which spaces and players to exploit, and no doubt a host of other aspects that none of us will ever get. Maybe in time McKenna will be known as the Professor.

So what do you think it means?

And do you think it’s an utterly meaningless term?

I’ll join this debate! Listening to KMs interview it seems to me that his use of ‘technical’ is the ability (or lack of it in the first half) to put into action preplanned passes, movements, etc.

In which case he uses he uses the word differently to me! I’d say that’s application, it’s inability to execute agreed or planned actions. Which to me is different to being technical. Technical is the analysis of other teams together with planned moves, phases, etc. ‘Technical’ is what’s going on in the video anylisis room, the fitness planning room, the applying of science discussions, the tactics planning whiteboad, etc. technical is the pulling of all those aspects and more together to agree a game plan for a match.

The execution of that is a different matter - and in that interview MK is talk8ng about the execution in a game situation - which personally I wouldn’t define as ‘technical’.

It’s about definitions of words isn’t it.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

"most often a defensive trio of George Edmundson, Luke Woolfenden and Janoi Donacien. Cameron Burgess has also featured in at centre-back."

It's far from lazy journalism, it's a really good piece.

In the version I read, it quite clearly says Burgess, Woolfenden and Donacien. There is no mention of Edmundson in the article at all.

Strange
