I thought it was being sold to American companies?

They've been doing it for years, mate.

Not sure what point you're making.

"US health insurance giant, Centene, through its UK subsidiary, Operose Health, has been taking over GP surgeries and practices in London and across the country for many years.

Centene has recently taken over AT Medics, a primary care provider responsible for 49 GP surgeries and over 370,000 patients in the Greater London area.

With a total of 70 GP surgeries and practices, Centene is almost certainly the largest single provider of NHS primary care in England.

This is shocking. Even the Daily Mail has called Centene a “profit greedy” company.

Below is a full list of the GP surgeries and practices currently owned by Centene, through its subsidiary Operose Health UK. "

This has been the case for years, there needs to be reform, it's a black hole for money but politicians are too scared of the publics reaction to try and tackle it.

We could start by scrapping the 'internal market'. Most of the private providers offer poor value for money, create additional paperwork for those of us on the shop floor and the amount of admin alone comes in at around £6Bn(conservative estimate) a year.

The fabulous Blair again!
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2006/feb/16/health.politics
https://lowdownnhs.info/analysis/the-history-of-privatisation-part-5/

"The New Labour approach was later summed up by Blair’s Pensions Secretary John Hutton in a 2007 speech to the CBI in which he argued that the “core” of the reform programme including “an open minded approach to who provides” — was being “built into the DNA of our public service infrastructure.”

But increasingly it became obvious that ministers were far from open minded; indeed they became ideologically obsessed with bringing in private companies and private hospitals as so-called “partners” — at the expense of sidelining and destabilising existing NHS providers."

The majority of service privatisation happened post 2012 with the Health and Social Care act. Up until then, most private provision was(with a few significant exceptions) largely for non-clinical and support services.

It's a good job that Jezza rescued us from that, eh?

As already said a significant number of GP surgeries are all about profit-making for large American groups, whilst the British public struggle to get an appointment.

Disability assessments have been making American companies millions of taxpayers money for years whilst demonising swathes of the British public in doing so.

Heck knows how much of taxpayers money goes abroad being taken directly out of NHS funds paying for various bloated contracts.

Unsurprisingly, they not only don't deliver savings, they're linked with increased mortality rates.

If you can be bothered to listen from 10.00 minutes, there is an interesting discussion as to why excess deaths haven't fallen, when COVID deaths have.

In a maybe oversimplified summary it mainly down to increased deaths from cardiovascular issues caused by pressure on the NHS, including ambulance response times etc.
Deaths from serious conditions which are less reliant on immediate response, such as cancer, are not at above usual levels.

A lot of the cardiovascular stuff is likely fallout from covid and all the fun things it does to lotting function.

Still, we got the big calls right going for 'herd immunity'.

I didn't like the broadening of PFIs under the Blair/Brown partnership assuming that's what you're referring to, which is why people rightly say that government didn't represent a [true] Labour government.

But they didn't introduce the concept as you know. Far from it.

That they ran with it was a mistake and the fact it's continued down that path is the fault of the current batch in charge but it is more their bag so to be expected.

"Private firms have been handed almost £15bn in NHS contracts over the past five years, figures show.

The value of contracts given to non-NHS providers, mainly profit-driven firms but also including some social enterprises, has soared by 89% since 2015, from £1.9bn to £3.6bn a year.

The figures cast doubt on the claim to MPs by the health secretary, Matt Hancock, in January that “there is no privatisation of the NHS on my watch” and repeated Conservative denials during the election campaign that the NHS is “up for sale”."

They have been incredibly helpful, supportive, cheerful, & all appointments on time & little time to wait. Very reassuring actually. No, not obtuse, just saying as it is! Pleasantly surprised

If it helps, I've filled in more 'incident' forms for great practice than bad, recently.

You spelt 'Most of the private providers offer splendid dividends' with a large number of the wrong letters.
