Jackson was our outlet all game, take him off for Keogh and get deeper and deeper.

Incredibly frustrating preventable goals. In isolation it’s an ok point but from 2 up that is a shambles.

We are not going to be perfect every game. Against a team that will possibly finish top 2. We got a point away from home when far from our best.

Oh....are we still top?

I'm thinking that was the first substitution mistake by McKenna. Just invited them onto us...and Ladapo was pretty off it. He lost their player for their first and why did he keep coming back to defend as it just left us with a knackered Burns floating around aimlessly.

Good post.

Hate throwing that lead away, but that's arguably the hardest game of the season done, we're still top, and I will bet that McK will be working bloody hard to stop something like that happening again.

Ok so can’t ever critique a performance. Especially when we were 2-0 up with 16 minutes to go ?

We were off it, so were Wednesday, they were not in that game and we let them back in. It’s not about being perfect every game, but I expect from 2 up to win that game.

Doesn’t mean I’m writing off the season. But at some point we need to win a game against a top team….

I'm not convinced that the sub affected what happened afterwards too much. We were looking a bit ragged and ill-disciplined after their first goal and getting an experienced defender on to calm things down and help see the last portion out made sense before they really started chucking the kitchen sink at us.

The problem was more the general lack of composure and giving away of daft kicks which just allowed them to push more bodies forwards and control the ball higher up the pitch. Didn't help that Ladapo came on and put in his most ineffective performance so far as having him on to relieve pressure was another sub that made a lot of sense.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Although it would have been tough to do so, arguably we should have subbed Ladapo off for Keogh, rather than Jackson. But that's easy to say in hindsight.

Perhaps. And you are 100% right in what you say about us looking ragged.

I just don’t like those substitutions. We had defended pretty well until one set piece.

Yeah of course you can but I didn't have a problem with putting another defender on when we were well under the hammer. Understand your opinion and am frustrated as well but at the end of the season I think we will see this as a good result

Let’s hope so. And hopefully beat them at our place later in the season

I thought that an extra defender was unnecessary and invited pressure. I was hoping he would beef up the midfield by putting Ball in the middle with Morsy and Evans, with an obviously tired Burns making way.

That said, the goals may well have been preventable. But that was down to sloppy play rather than the substitutions.

I wasn’t too keen on that substitution at all, it disrupted our back line. Woolfy had coped really well with Smith and then suddenly Keogh was central and players around him were having to reorganize.
Fridge was the wrong side of Smith for the goal
They only had one effort on target at that point, which they had scored from.

Still. A point is fine. We weren’t at our best.

Usual rule of thumb is not to change the backline if it's working and it was for the most part. As said, Ball was probably the logical sub with the added bonus that he could drop into the defence if we were really against it.

Yeah I think those types of subs specifically are either labelled great or awful with hindsight and if he hadn't have made that sub and we conceded an equaliser everyone would be on here asking why.

As I said really we were inviting pressure anyway and continued to do so by giving away cheap free kicks and not taking enough care of the ball when we had a chance to bring some calm to the game. Same sort of reason why I'm not that bothered about the offside for the equaliser as they may well have scored anyway if the lino called it correctly the way things were going.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I think the biggest problem was that Harness in particular but also Ladapo struggled to get into the game. We couldn’t keep the ball in the last 15.
