Twtd political party manifesto- Radical thinking, what have we got? 10:44 - Sep 28 with 1722 views | BlueandTruesince82 | All the talk about politics ATM, if we were to form the TWTD party what policies would we like have in our manifesto? Genuine suggestions and why, what impact do you think they would have? Let's see what good we can actually do. I'm genuinely interested to see what we can come up with and have provided 2 suggestions below. 1. Leaglsie weed, only weed. Why? The tax income from it could be huge, and all be divered to wherever we see need. The NHS foe example. Or make make it state owned and then all profits and taxes can get ploughed in. Takes the criminal element out of supply reducing ill gotten gains and probably helps with prison over crowding. People will say but weed is a gateway drug. Well so is booze, so is tobacco. I was addicted to crisps well before I was addicted to tobacco so are crisps a gateway drug too? Also by the logic myself and many of my friends should all be crackheads by now. None of us our, only 1 person I know dabbles in anything stronger Speaking from personal experience I think i would smoke less if weed were legalised. The nature of supply means you don't want to lose touch with your dealer so you buy more often, at least you do when you get older as your network becomes ever decreasin7g circles. I wouldn't introduce cafes, I would simply state that people can smoke in their own home and maybe certain designated places if suitable ones could be identified. 2. Legalise brothels. Bit more controversial this and I get why but I would advocate the NZ model. This would mean brothels are legal, streetwalking is not. Why? 1. More taxable income, the establiments and workers would have to be registered all paying relevant income tax, business taxes etc. 2. Safety, a legal requirement to hire door people, a reduction in fear of punishment from the law for those trafficked or forced into such work should they report it, a legal requirement for all workers to have a regular STI tests (not paid for by the NHS, all funds raised from payments to go back into the NHS) plus a generally safer environment in which to work 3. Local councils able to apply planning laws, any such establishment cannot be in a residential area to ensure local residents not affected etc. Can also then put limits on the size of any establishment and the number of people that can work within. 4. Despite best efforts this kind of work has never been and will never be eradicated, its the oldest profession on the world for a reason and working with the industry seems are more sensitive and cost effective than havingnit continue to operate outside the law. I realise both my suggestions are controversial at least to some but I think both on the whole do good. Each is considered in the context of both improving tbe public purse and making life better for those involved. I think these are sensible and practical solutions that could be implemented without too much difficulty though I'm sure many will disagree. What other radical or sensible things could we propose? I'd like to genuine policy suggestions for is to fix the country, rather than sentiment such as "ban all racists" which is obviously a given but not really a policy, more just being a good human being More humoursly (there may have been a thread on this recently tbf) nominations from TWTD for (real) ministerial positions. Although I don't think 'coppers' needs to be capitalised, unless....Also, a 'the' in front of Post Office would have been better form.

We need to go fully renewable *now* (OK I know that's technically imposs, but we can right now at least start organising for it to happen in the shortest space of time feasible).

I never smoke until after I have finished work for the day. I thnik I could probably work when high ESP as I WFH these days but feels best not to risk it. I'm actually toying with the idea of giving up but this would be after we go to see Paulo Nutini in Nov becaues I defo want to be enjoying the effects for that. Having said that I've been toying with that idea for some time, the road to hell is of course paved with good intentions. |
Good on yer, taken me years to get some kinda weed discipline. I also wfh or on site and try not to smoke until at least late afternoon ( otherwise I have to turn the phone off in case a client try to call me). I have zero intention of ever giving up. Legalisation would obviously make it a lot less hassle for me.

One where not every penny goes into a black hole because we didn't take the time to make it fit for purpose , so we can afford roads and stuff.

I know you are joking but on a serious point, as was discussing only this the other day. For many pensioners, that could be their only human interaction and being able to have a chat with the person behind the counter on some stuff that isn't about what they are in there for, is incredibly healthy and important for their wellbeing.

I think legalise and sell through pharmacies, tax it both fpr the buyer and the seller (the latter essentially a liswcene to sell fee) Or make or state owned and set up small stores through that as your distribution network, that plus possibly online. Hopefully that would also lead to hemp which has a multitude of uses also being used more widely |
It may not bring in tax revenue but Jamaica benefits from rich Europeans and North Americans spending money on other things too whilst there on holiday. A Berliner I was talking to also made the point that smoking home grown, or small scale plantation, ganja was a much healthier experience than he was used to, no treatments to keep you coming back for more (not that it seemed to be stopping him from going at it non stop.)
