1) This is on the football forum
2) As already said, who cares?
3) it’s about half the rate of inflation, so what’s your point?

Problem is - it’s not that simple.

Back in black and white when I grew up everything was nationalised and it ended up in bloody disaster. Ok fine, government owns the utilities so we get a fair deal baby - no, government needs money so your utilities are going up.

Rail - well I’ve always thought railways should be under government control as you need to get your workforce to there destination on time, but ah man, back in the day it was the joke of the world.

When it was privatised it became great for a while but it’s now gone sh1t again.

NHS - it’s sh1t.

It’s not always about nationalisation or privatisation, it just needs a big boss to sort it out

Whatever way you go it’s gonna get screwed - in UK anyway.

Once on a train station in Holland the train was late and they announced it over the public address information that the train was late, this old bird looked at me and said “Welcome to Holland”

Every country has their deficiencies. Unfortunately we seem to be going through a bad time.

Brexit, Covid - bloody nightmare.

“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.” Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

Tom Hunt finally remembered how to reset his password.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

Although capped at 5.9%, so some will argue it's a brownie point for the Government. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/biggest-government-intervention-ever-to-keep-

Although how is that cap working? The devil will be in the detail that we can't easily see. Is there a deal that sees the owner getting additional support from the government to prop them up? So is it being used as a lever against the unions?

Where does the money flow from the rises and any additional governmental (tax payer) support - is that 5.9% going on wages or, as we've seen in the past, are they prioritising shareholders (e.g. Arbellio who run Greater Anglia & East Midlands - https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/firstgroup-abellio-rail-strikes-rmt-shareholder

Etc., etc. A lot more to this than just a quick headline.

Arbellio also own Merseyrail and in the summer agreed a salary increase of £1,600, or 7.1% whichever was higher.

I’m having difficulty with Labour’s opinion poll based policies. They are with the rail workers when they take industrial action but then oppose a 5.9% increase in rail fares.

At the risk of being pedantic Abellio is a (Dutch) state owned company and therefore not beholden to shareholder returns.

I think a poster mentioned recently they’d sold their stake in Greater Anglia?
