Given that he got himself into the Brighton match day squad and scored v Arsenal, I’d say that our chances of getting him on loan are now pretty much zero, could be wrong.

Absolutely, but I guess he has to consider what the chances are of being involved in the remainder of the PL season - he might get 5-6 sub appearances for example, against 20+ games in L1 where he plays 60-90 mins and might score a hatful of goals.

And whether Brighton add to their striking ranks during January. I'm sure you're right that at this point they'd rather him go out and play regularly than get a few minutes here and there from the bench.

I agree that he'll need minutes, but given his newly raised profile, I guess there will be plenty of interest from Championship clubs and possibly even a couple of lower level Prem teams, so I imagine the chances of us securing his services have dramatically reduced. Pure guesswork, but just how I see it.

There was an interview with their manager saying he really took the opportunity during world cup break to impress him and he wanted to give him more minutes. I guess if he is getting regular PL minutes off the bench then they might decide to keep him. Hopefully they add a striker...

Yep, will want minutes, but as per other post, most likely will have a lot of interest from Championship clubs and could possibly play his way into the Brighton team?

I'm sure there will also be Championship interest. I doubt the chances have reduced much because of one goal in a game which looked all but over, he's already made his Ireland debut so clearly very highly rated and with a big future expected for him.

Bothers me ever so slightly we are in a position to be taking loans from clubs like Brighton, and it's their youngsters etc.

Sooner we get our club back where it belongs the better. 2023 needs to be the year where nature heals, football gets sorted, the Tories get booted and we leave the pandemic behind.

I was thinking very similarly last night after a couple of drinks. I was wondering how it was that I was excited about the prospect of potentially signing a youngster like Whittaker in league one, when only a few seasons ago there'd be uproar on here at the suggestion of such a thing and we would be arguing heartily about what Premier League, or top end Championship players we should be signing (all of which would have been unrealistic of course, because no funds would have been made available).

It truly has been a sad journey, but fingers crossed, we might just see things brighten up over the next few months.
