Got too much stick today and people need to get a grip and calm down.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

Absolutely doesn’t deserve any stick IMO. He’s a very solid keeper at this level but his distribution yesterday was bizarre. Several times Wolfie took the goal kick just to pass it to Walton who then hoofed it up field to no one. If the plan is to go long then get everyone up the field to try and connect with it. Having two defenders in your own box and 5 other players around the edge of your box to then hoof it up to no one was absolutely bizarre.

Rule number 1. Push wide or hold it.

Simplistic rubbish as per usual. Look at the angle the shot came from. He can't push it any wider to his right, and he can't push it wide to his left without steering it towards his own goal. It was close in, hit hard and he was partially unsighted, so he got a good block on it and Burns did exactly what he was standing there to do.

OK I'll discuss.

He's exactly what I said a little while back.

Average at shot stopping. Distribution is a massive weak point and we could do better as a promotion chasing team.

I actually thought earlier in the season his distribution to wide areas was excellent! I'd like to see attacks sprung quickly , by throwing or kicking, after claiming a cross and staying on his feet. Thats frustrating, when most of the opposition is in our half. Would need Jackson on the pitch for that though? He did seem to dwell on it yesterday, and encourage closing down, which I suppose is the ploy to free up our center back to receive the ball. The conditions didn't help clearances from his area, it was really skidding though to their keeper, but after about 5 of those, you'd think he'd adjust!

I think he is very good normally with the ball, difficult to say in iFollow but did Argyle press that much so he had no option ? Teams have done it before and we just play through it but yesterday we barely managed it once.

The only Muff in Town.

I'm old-fashioned, I don't think there is anything wrong with the GK occasionally lumping it forward.

McK has clearly told Walton he wants him to pass it out from the back and only hoof in an emergency. Plymouth were setup to close that space down quickly, they constantly targeted Wilf knowing he can play they ball forcing Walton to use one of the other players and that was forcing him into thinking for a few extra seconds he never had.
I was watching McK and he never got animated with Walton, I think a few mgrs would have been shouting and waving about 'clear it', but I think he wants Walton to play/that pass style.

Not convinced Walton is that type of 'sweeper' keeper but we cannot constantly change players, Walton is perfectly good enough for L1/promotion

There's a lump to a big man up front which is fine and then there's an aimless lump up field to no one which Walton was guilty of numerous times yesterday.

If you were to plot his performances on a graph, I think he's been on a slight downward trend for the past couple of months.

Still a decent keeper at this level, but needs to get that trajectory going in the right direction again.

Distribution was slack yesterday.

But this bizarre overreaction is ridiculous.

He’s a brilliant goalkeeper at this level, has shown it time and time again over the past 18 months, at times has solely kept us in games at times.

Just your classic case of football fan overreaction.

Everyone ctfd. He’s part of a top 4 defensive units in the league. Fans must love the constant belief that success is bought and that their attitude has no effect on the collective enjoyment of watching a team build and progress. All our investment is doing is accelerating our ability to compete, it doesn’t short cut the need to create a robust team, nor stop a team being heavily impacted by injuries to key positions and losing momentum.

I like Walton. And was really pleased when we signed him permanently. He's a good keeper. One of the top keepers in the division. And will be ok if we go up, too.
Like any keeper or defender, their odd mistakes get highlighted and remembered. Because they are often costly. But usually result from a "collective" of a few players indecision.
I think Walton has got better on coming for high balls this season. Last season he was a phenomenal shot stopper. That save at Wycombe was incredible. So we know he's got that in his locker.
He's our number 1. And generally steady at worst.. So just get behind him. He's the last player on the pitch we need to be messing around with...
