Every point won and lost, late goals and their final cost 12:58 - Jan 15 with 1657 views | Vegtablue | Points won from a losing position*: Ipswich 6 Wednesday 6 Plymouth 15 Points lost from a winning position*: Ipswich 15 Wednesday 4 Plymouth 10 Net points: Ipswich -9 Wednesday 2 Plymouth 5 *In the event any team has gone in front, back to parity, then any team gone in front, followed by the result changing again, etc. etc... it is the final occasion a team has gone in front before the FT result changed to a draw/win for the other team that has been used in calculations. Goals scored from the 80th minute which, at the time they were scored, were an equaliser or winner*: Ipswich +4, -4 Wednesday +4, -1 Plymouth +4, -3 *So Charlton match = +1, -1. *Therefore not included: Plymouth extra +1 on '79, Ipswich extra -1 on '79 As above but with goals from 90: Ipswich +1, -3 Wednesday +2, -1 Plymouth +3, -2 Our goals from 90 are the only to have not earned us more points obviously 🫣😂. In the two matches where Wednesday lost from their winning positions (as described above), both equalisers came inside the first 60 minutes of the game; it's fair to say their defence rarely blinks!

I get the narrative we drop more points than the other two. So there must be a lot of points we have won where we havnt had to come from behind.

We lose very few games from winning positions, on the flipside it doesn't feel like we come back from many losing positions to win games, we may draw them but rarely seem to fully turn them round That's how it feels any way, do the stats back that up?

Indeed. If we can improve our closing out of matches we will be fine. We do need to improve it, though.

I don't agree the stat is flawed 😅 I completely agree with your explanation for why Plymouth's points tally from losing positions is as high as it is and ours is so much lower. Indeed, Plymouth have now come back only one more occasion than they've been pegged back. If you frame that stat in respect to success and failure then it's definitely flawed! Addressing the perceived flaw head-on however: Ipswich have scored first 20 times, conceded first 6 times. Wednesday have scored first 18 times, conceded first 6 times. Ipswich's -15 figure from the OP is from 7 matches. Wednesday's -4 figure from the OP is from 2 matches. The points gained from losing positions were identical for both teams, not surprisingly given the quantity of games in which we both score first. Wednesday's defensive stability is a key difference at the moment, both under pressure and in general. I think it strengthens the case for why, reputation aside, Plymouth are seen to be in a more precarious position than Wednesday despite the points advantage.
