BP scales back climate goals as profits more than double to £23bn 10:41 - Feb 7 with 1105 views | NthQldITFC | https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/feb/07/bp-profits-windfall-tax-gas-pri 1. Unashamedly stealing from the ordinary person as the caring society dies. 2. Accelerating the destruction of nature and that which sustains human life. 3. Bedfellows in government fellating them and enjoying the outflow. We all have to ask ourselves why we are allowing this to happen. We live in a time of obscene and suicidal selfishness, and if we don't wake up and change things soon in will be too late. [Post edited 7 Feb 2023 10:42]

Even though it’s our own fault for listening far too much to climate change sceptics and ignoring fossil fuel lobbyists over the past couple of decades, we’re way behind where we could have been with renewables and alternative energy. As a result, energy security is still a massive problem and particularly acute now with Russia’s maverick role so that it has trumped accessibility and sustainability which are the real global energy concerns. Leading to the current situation: Energy and offshore companies have effectively been given the green light to secure more fossil fuels. In 2023 FFS! On a related note, I caught sight of an energy tech company’s business strategy and that was frighteningly bullish about the next few years and its oil and gas forecasts. The new energy stuff is still there but it’s now a decade before that becomes even half of their business. I think we can safely call that long-term view the long-grass view as far as this company is concerned.

The conservative party is following what their pay masters are saying needs to happen.

Problem is, that bvggers people's pensions and savings (if anybody has those nowadays). Not that I think nationalisation of energy/fuel assets is a bad idea. Just have to be careful of collateral damage.

It's the damage from not doing it that is infinitely worse, both environmentally and socially. We need to stop making excuses.
