How was Humphrey's performance v Burnley? on 09:30 - Feb 9 by Steve_M | Is that all? Think I assumed he's a good five years older. Nothing he's done on the pitch suggests he's been a good signing though. |
If he hadn't picked up an injury in pre-season I think Ball/Morsy would have been our main pairing. When Evans started the season so well it was always going to be difficult for him to get a good run of games and the 2nd injury stopped him proving himself in the cup games. For a player who has never really had an injury problem Ball has been really unlucky since he came to us.

How was Humphrey's performance v Burnley? on 15:39 - Feb 8 by Simonds92 | He's shown he is a very good footballer technically but he still lacks impact on the games and in that spell where Evans was injured it felt as though Morsy was a 1 man midfield for a number of the games. 2nd half against Fleetwood stands out as CH being completely missing. He also needs to learn a bit more about the dirty side of the game, i think it was against Wycombe the lad ran past him and Burgess as if they weren't there. Evans would have taken a cynical yellow and we may be a few points better off than we are. Thats why others are saying in our current position we can't afford to risk giving him a run of games and we drop crucial points. Good player to have in the squad currently but he doesnt command a starting spot every week. |
Why didn't Evans take a cynical yellow card when DIgby waltzed past him on Saturday for the goal or Ironside did for the penalty? Evans is key in winning headers etc from that role but most of his yellows seem to be pointless OTT frustrated challenges rather than the cynical yellows you sometimes need.

How was Humphrey's performance v Burnley? on 09:24 - Feb 9 by Steve_M | I thought at the time that we should have signed Bakinson last Summer, a bit raw but does a bit of everything in midfield. Nothing since then has changed my opinion with Evans not quite there any longer and Ball past it, although Humphreys has held his own better than most people might have expected. |
Agreed on all counts. Tangentially our transfer business this season has been pretty terrible. Ball Camara Ahadme Keogh all flops, Harness and TJJ (who sometimes does look fantastic) very 50-50, I appreciate you can’t do much about injuries. Only Davis and Lapado look like an unqualified success so far.

"I appreciate you can't do much about injuries" - Ball and Camara never really had the chance to show what they can do. Ball's preseason knock (caused by Morsy apparently) allowed Evans a run of games that he excelled in. Ball never really had the chance to show what he could do with a decent run of matches before he picked up his injury. For someone who has been injury free for most of his career he's been really unlucky.

Harness is well above 50/50 I think, seven goals despite a six week injury layoff and being in and out of the team otherwise is alright. It should be a few more of course. Signing Ahadme because we failed to get Hirst in August has cost us a lot as has TJJ's injury when he had really settled. I don't mind the gamble on Camara so much but in combination with Ball it's really not worked.

Probably fair on Harness. If he gets to 10 goals+ then that’s a success.
