My memory is of Chaplin deviating his run to try to block the genuine attempt of the other player to take possession of the ball, thrusting himself just in front by taking an angle that took him away from where the ball actually was, when Chaplin wasn't close enough to be able to claim he was in possession of it and thus shielding it in a fair way. He attempted to buy a foul but really it was a 50/50 race in which he came off second best - for me anyway. In rugby we would call it obstruction. |  | | |

Putting himself between man and ball wasn't wrong (he was never in possession of the ball by the way), but don't then fall flat on your arse and try to claim a cheap foul.
It's probably the most perfect example of someone trying to buy a free kick we've seen all season. If an oppo player does that and we have a goal disallowed we chalk it down as another officiating grievance. | |
