Hundreds of police
Sniffer dogs
Full bag searches
Police horses
Drones in the air

What on earth were they expecting?! I’ve never seen anything so over the top!

We’ll be good again... one day

There has been plenty. Barnsley was captured on social media. As others have said, Sheff Weds and Plymouth brought a lot of fans who were spoiling for confrontation, Fleetwood too. There was trouble after our game at Portsmouth with a few bloodied noses.

It is not just physical confrontation, it is also anti social fan behaviour. We have seen Town fans ejected from Sir Alf lower for verbally abusing away fans. There have been issues in the north where fans have bought tickets in the upper tier and gate crashed section six, It is why the separate upper and lower entrances were introduced. Not helped by the stewards I suspect but anti-social nonetheless.

(Some) football fans seem more brazen and feral post Covid lockdown. Whether this is a result of two years of de-socialising or marks a more widespread use of stimulants, I do not know, but I suspect that these are contributory factors.

We have seen increased police and stewarding presence for a reason, bigger crowds and worsening behaviour.

You hit the nail on the head there - disorder takes many forms, and it could be argued that it would constitute anything that isn't 'usual' behaviour. Punches don't have to be thrown in order to create an unpleasant and intimidatory atmosphere.

There are those in this thread who seem to think that anything short of a full-scale riot is wholly acceptable, and not worth worrying about.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I think you're making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill here. Portman Road hasn't suddenly turned into a cesspit of disorder.

I have made two comments on this thread - that there has been an increased number of issues at PR this season compared to recent seasons and then given some examples. Some have been caused by home fans, some by visitors.

Fan misbehaviour at games has risen since Covid across the country, arrests and reported incidents are up, including Town. That is why police presence is increasing, including for Town fans which was the question in the OP.

I think you are overreacting to what I have posted.

I sense a bit of an atmosphere everywhere post COVID straight into crap economy.

Football reflects the wider societal dysfunction imo but perhaps an exaggerated version.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

No, I think the wider general disorder is because repeated views on social media & elsewhere have shown to the public that there's very little that the police can do if a substantial number of people decide to be anti-social.
