Hundreds of police
Sniffer dogs

Police horses
Drones in the air

What on earth were they expecting?! I’ve never seen anything so over the top!

There have been problems at multiple home games both inside and outside the stadium.

You certainly have to be on your guard these days on the walk to the station after the game.

We spoke to a steward inside about this and he said "you lot caused carnage last year in the concourse with smoke bombs etc so the club are taking no risks."

There was never "carnage". But this highlights this so called football club aren't used to crowds or how excited away fans act. Franchise scum.

There must have been something to give MK cause to request extra policing at the ground.

Given the nature of ITFC's fairly recent dispute with Suffolk Constabulary over the bill for additional policing, I would suggest that clubs probably don't request extra policing unless they feel it absolutely necessary.

To my mind any sort of disorder whatsoever, even if it's not necessarily 'carnage' is utterly uncalled for in this day and age.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I think the police act largely on the numbers. 7,000 away fans is probably unprecedented so naturally there will be a larger police presence as they would be criticised hugely if there was trouble and they were under resourced.

That’s crazy, why? I watched that guys vlog thing and it looked like a massive family day out inside and outside the ground compared to the ground we used to take to London 15-20 years ago.

It's the worst away of the season (in comparison to a London day like you mention).

Can you be more specific, I walk back to the station after home games and the Barnsley game is the only one when I recall a minor scuffle

Maybe it depends when and where you leave the stadium from.

I'm in SBR Upper and tend to leave only after I've clapped the players but there have been several occasions I have come across either fans of ours or fans of the opposition looking to stir things up, even when it's a team with a small support.

The last occasion was Sheffield Wednesday when I ended up among some rather lairy Wednesday fans.

Of course, it may be that the security is better straight after the game but by the time I get to where the oppositions fans leave the stadium, the security people but not the police tend to be walking back towards the stadium, and thus seem off duty.

I don't think we were angels last year.

A couple of stewards near where I was sitting got an extended torrent of abuse from a couple of obnoxious fans. So far as I could see, the stewards had done nothing to provoke them.

I apologised to them as I went out.

Remember when we used to have the best fans in the League?

Used to get a warm welcome, no trouble, just known as friendly bunch who knew their football.

That was nice.

I’m lower, and leave same sort of time, the only minor scuffle was Barnsley, being amongst lively fans is not aggro, as another poster suggested

I've seen a bit more than that, but I suppose I have experience of hooliganism in the late 60s and 70s, so tend not to show my colours in such situations. After all, it only takes one idiot.

And some of our fans were at it again yesterday...lots of videos on twitter "celebrating' their support on the concourse.

Most will be back at school tomorrow.

It's not a binary thing with it either being 100% peaceful, or absolute carnage.

Even the one smoke bomb that was smuggled into the stadium would be seen as much worse than should be expected.

To be honest, I can't remember, not least because apart from the big teams most of the teams we play barely register with me.

And it's clearly nothing like the 60s or 70s. Instead, it is more a case of people shouting at, being aggressive to or surging at fans from the opposite teams, which probably doesn't get too out of hand not least because there are police and stewards about.

Indeed, at the Wednesday game, there were some Ipswich fans being very aggressive to the Wednesday fans, and I thought it was all going to kick-off when the Wednesday fans moved towards them, which given I was in the middle of it was not great.

If you are saying being in the middle of what looked to me could be a fight, or having to be aware of what is going on every time I go to the station and moving position if necessary, is fine, so be it.

You are obviously much tougher than me, and probably much younger.

You could always go into town for half an hour after the game to let the visiting fans disperse, it’s a bit daft that both sets of fans are let out at the same time, some sort of human rights nonsense I believe

I'm not so paranoid as to delay the two hours or so it takes to get home.

Indeed, I like to think I am pretty streetwise having experienced hooliganism in the 70s, so it is not really that great an issue for me.

There has been plenty. Barnsley was captured on social media. As others have said, Sheff Weds and Plymouth brought a lot of fans who were spoiling for confrontation, Fleetwood too. There was trouble after our game at Portsmouth with a few bloodied noses.

It is not just physical confrontation, it is also anti social fan behaviour. We have seen Town fans ejected from Sir Alf lower for verbally abusing away fans. There have been issues in the north where fans have bought tickets in the upper tier and gate crashed section six, It is why the separate upper and lower entrances were introduced. Not helped by the stewards I suspect but anti-social nonetheless.

(Some) football fans seem more brazen and feral post Covid lockdown. Whether this is a result of two years of de-socialising or marks a more widespread use of stimulants, I do not know, but I suspect that these are contributory factors.

We have seen increased police and stewarding presence for a reason, bigger crowds and worsening behaviour.
