Hey if we can avoid it by finishing second I’ll drink to that.

Are there half a dozen league teams left for now?

I think the following list is correct, with Forest and Port Vale having got there last year, and Oldham having been relegated out of the football league.

Us and Blackburn definitely stand out in terms of size of club and historical trophies won.

Accrington
Blackburn
Colchester
Crawley
Hartlepool
Ipswich

Blackburn could also do it via the Championship play offs. There’s also a fair chance either Crawley and/or Hartlepool could be relegated out of the League.

We've had so many false peaks to the banter era - I'm not sure I'll ever dare to call the peak! :)

How long has new Wembley been going? 15 years? Seems a crazily high ratio of clubs to have managed to get there in that time.

Indeed, I should think the number of clubs to have played there would be significantly lower (any stattos care to enlighten us on the specifics?) if they did away with this modern nonsense of playing the semis of the cup there.

Colchester aside, all the other teams have been promoted in that time frame as well. Hartlepool went through the play offs in the Conference last year but the game got moved from Wembley to Ashton Gate so they’re only on the list due to bad luck.

Spurs having it as their home ground for a while helped a little, although I presume the majority of those have played there for an actual cup game.

The play-offs account for a lot of the teams. Even Colchester were close to getting to Wembley quite recently, losing 3-2 to Exeter in a play-off semi-final. (Why they bothered playing those games at Wembley when there were no crowds due to Covid I don't know.)

When you break it down there are quite a lot of fixtures at Wembley per season aren't there. I had a weird feeling it was going to be a lot like buses for us this season - wait so long for one and then three come along at once! Alas, it was not to be.

Will this be the season? At the moment hopefully not, but that might quickly change to hopefully so...

Replaced probably by Wrexham or Notts County, who have both played there I believe.
