I agree with those saying they’ve all been big games. You don’t get out of this league without treating every games as if it’s a ‘must win’.

Indeed, we simply have to try to win every game we play. We won't do that of course & there are some tough fixtures coming up. Derby have lost 3of their last 4 & will only be trying to secure a play off position so it is winnable, but not easy. A loss would be a disappointment but not actually the end of our hopes of automatic promotion. Winning the 4 home games is probably a must, but all the away fixtures look tricky so I think we are going to drop some points. 18 points from the last 8 games & then things will probably be very tight at the top. What we don't know & can't control is how the other 3 perform, but Wednesday's blip has been a huge bonus.

The Derby game is now ridiculously significant ! on 11:44 - Mar 29 with 675 views | ringwoodblue | I still insist that if we win all our remaining home games and don’t lose our away games we will be in the top two come the end of the season so let’s make we don’t lose to Derby so we can tick off another game and move onto the next.

The Derby game is now ridiculously significant ! on 11:47 - Mar 29 with 667 views | DanTheMan | An important game as it's one of the more difficult ones but I think as long as we grab a point we're OK. We're playing them at a good time as they've really not been all that good recently.

The Derby game is now ridiculously significant ! on 08:04 - Mar 29 by NthQldITFC | I was quite amazed (and worried) by how fast Barnsley started last night. Do they always go off like that? I've rarely seen a team put so much into the first half an hour only to inevitably fade badly in the second half. Big gamble to get in front and then suppress the opposition I guess, but it REALLY backfired last night. As you say, we are a much, much better balanced club than any of our rivals, not just in terms of personnel and the way we play, but in terms of composure, discipline and controlled aggression now, I think. |
From what I've seen of Barnsley, which isn't loads. They will allow other teams possession, and look to turn them over high up the pitch with an aggressive high press. Then get bodies forwards quickly, causing a bit of chaos in oppo defence. During their recent good run, their goals to chances conversion was unrealistically higher than it should have been.. Some games, they were converting, like, 3 chances from5, for instance. Which flattered them, imo....They don't look too structured, imo. If their chaotic high press isn't working, they don't look to have much else...They faded badly against SW, but got 2 late goals as Wednesday faded and took risks late on..So, again, 4-2 flattered them, imo....I think, when we play them, if we can stay strong for half an hour, we'll be ok.However, they are a team that will press us hard and fast if we play out too much from the back...It will be interesting to see if KM mixes it up a bit, with some more direct play, and pace up front, for that one, imo...

Yes, a draw at Derby wouldn't be a terrible result but I'm sure we will go into the game trying to win it. Warne is quite a shrewd manager so I doubt he will make it easy.

That last sentence, that's what we've added to the locker in the last couple of months, and by the gods it works well. I think we'll probably go a little direct at the start as you say with pace up front early. Could be a rare start for Kayden perhaps.

The Derby game is now ridiculously significant ! on 23:38 - Mar 28 by BigCommon | Thing we've got in our favor, more so than our rivals, imo, is that we are such a different animal to the last time any of our remaining oppo played us.. We are looking like we are growing stronger, whilst some rivals are looking jaded... Wednesday have looked ragged for weeks, and, imo, were fortunate to extend their unbeaten run for as long as they did. Barnsleys high energy pressing game, is something they can't sustain for 90 minutes, and will eat into their squad with all their Sat, Tue,Sat Tue weeks to go.... We've strengthened well on the window and have a few more bodies coming back into the frame, too. I think we are in a really good place atm. We are much harder to work out, scoring all types of goals, from quick counter attacks, to more direct long balls, set pieces, and our usuall passing game... We've scored more goals than anyone else, we are currently on the L1 best unbeaten run, and we've lost fewer games than anyone else in the division.... I don't see why we can't go unbeaten until the end of the season. Hopefully including enough wins in the process.. A draw is not a bad result at Derby. But given both teams respective form, I think we could come away with the 3 pts. Can see their crowd getting a bit nervy if we keep them quiet and/or get our noses in front.... |
Earlier in the season, even Four weeks ago a draw at Derby would have been an excellent result. Now however with it being so tight at the top, dropping Two points isn’t what we need at all. It’s easy to expect wins against Port Vale, Charlton and Cheltenham but we all know the script. I’m sure Wednesday fans weren’t too unhappy being held by Bolton the other Friday knowing they’d get an easy win at Forest Green and look what happened there. Same for Barnsley last night, I’m sure they expected a hard fought draw at least. We simply have to be relentless and get ourselves some sort of cushion for when the inevitable shock result happens. Things are very much presenting themselves very kindly to us though.
