If the new pitch is 'On Track' on 23:48 - Mar 30 by Oldsmoker | I'm going to embarrass myself and the whole board. Yes. I'm a train nut. Go on laugh. The Evening Star was the last steam locomotive ever built by British Rail. That's why Chuchmans reply was super clever - and got a Smoker Uppie. It's a Class 9F and is massive, and it out-performed all diesel locomotives until they retired it. |
I’m actually not a train nut. Aviation is more my thing, but I am interested in all forms of engineering. The history and impact of the railways on our world is off the scale. I thought of Evening Star because when I visited the York Museum for my first and only time so far a few years ago, that was the locomotive that stood out for me. Flying Scotsman: Legendary. Mallard, Rocket, Bullet you name it: all wonderful. But Evening Star really was for me the star, and I don’t mean Stephenson’s broad gauge Star class. Wonderful museum, York. There’s so much fascinating stuff there. including Royal carriages Mrs C loved. You’ve got to be mentally uncoupled not to give it a little time, if you are up that way. Highly recommended. | |
