This was somewhat inspired by Clive_Baker saying Davis has improved since arriving.

From memory, most improved player awards go to players that have been here a previous season. But arguments could be made for someone like Ladapo too.

A lot has been made in regards to how McKenna and his team have improved players. Who do you think currently deserves this?

Seeing as Chaplin was only making cameos from the bench at the start of the season I would suggest he is our most improved player

Chaplin started five of our first six league games. He's been a regular pretty much all season, he's made 33 starts.

burgess for me to. leif according to leeds fans was going to the top. they just hope they got first refusal in his contract if looks for a transfer in the future.
freddie had a goal ave of one in three with his last 2 clubs before he came here and still got a one in three.

Imo it has to be Burgess his all round game has improved greatly.

Next season I'll be interested to see how Edwards is. In his games under KM he's a different type of player to what we saw in his first appearences imo. Much more than tricks and flicks.

a niche perspective

In terms of goals to minutes, Freddie is scoring at better than 1 goal every 180 minutes this season. That's incredible considering it took him a few games to get off the mark in the league. Definitely think he's a much better all round centre forward now than he was when he first joined.

Agree with many of the names mentioned, but Jackson also ought to be on the shortlist.

Good call on jackson. From being left out and relegated to the u21's to being such a great impact player, in any position. Hes done amazingly well.

Jackson out wide is much improved on Jackson up top. I often find myself wanting to see him involved earlier.

His early performances were decent but for me he's a different beast now. His movement has really improved over the course of the season and he's now consistently a goal threat when we plays as well as being a good hold up player and leading the press, which he's done well from day 1. I think he's improved significantly over the course of this season.

I've seen lots of improvements in Freddys game. You could argue that they are "adaptions" more than improvements as a footballer...
He looked a little bit lost up there on his own ,first few games, imo... But over time, has built better playing relationships with team mates. His link up is much better. And he often drops much deeper, pulling CBs out of position, when playing against deep, organised defences. Occassionaly turning his man and carrying the ball to break the line.Or feeding a runner.. His movement is sharper, too, imo. Giving MF a passing option through the channel, off the shoulder of CBS .
Seen comments on Jackson. Personally think KM just plays him to his strengths. He's a much better winger than striker, imo. I've always liked him. Ask any defender, at any level, what they fear. Most will tell you, pace and energy from an attacker. Jackson has both, in abundance.

Yes me too, the way we press teams and really tire them out, jackson coming on with 20 to go must be so demoralising for the other team!

Jackson is probably not most improved but rather reinvented. Totally new role and position...

Would agree he's certainly one who has improved and evolved as the season has gone on. Not least learning the role within our set up and has made a really valuable contribution when you consider the goals and performances he's delivered. His goal at Charlton is up there with my goals of the season, just a shame it wasn't the winning goal as it deserved to be.

I still think his movement is something that can improve. The amount of times Burns gets away down the right and Ladapo seems to make a run to the back post and into a crowd. Compare that with Hirst at Bolton for example where he's always looking to get across his man. In fact Hirst's first contribution in a town shirt was a very similar run, I think at home to Plymouth. He seems to have more of a natural forwards instinct than Freddie but I have enjoyed what I've seen from FL, I think he's got a big role to play over these next 8 games.

I really liked his performance verses Derby at PR, even though he missed a pen... I thought they were petrified of him. Made their defence very edgy , eventually forcing the error that led to our goal that night. He ran his socks off.. And I think his attitude is spot on. He's there when called upon and very low maintenance.
Doesn't surprise me at all, that he's still here, despite dozens moved on since all the big changes at our club.

I’m going to say (almost) everyone. Not sure whether it is the quality of coaching, or developing a clear style of play that helps the players understand how they can succeed, but the majority have seemingly become better players under McKenna.

GK - I remember when we couldn’t replace the Holy Bartman, and Hladky just wasn’t good enough. Now he seems an able deputy who I have confidence in, although Walton is a class apart and should clearly start.

CM - woolfie, too laid back, easily bullied, gave the ball away, only gets game time because he’s a local boy… now rated (by us?) as the next Beckenbaur. Burgess, too slow, lacked confidence and creativity on the ball, poor positioning… now more solid than a fridge. And we have great cover in Donacien, Edmundson, even the venerable Keogh is an upgrade on rabbit in the headlights Nsiala - although equally liable to give away a penalty.

I won’t embarrass myself by listing all our players and making trite judgements, but it gives me hope that even those who aren’t in the first XI today could become heroes - I’m looking at you Edwards, and Harness, and Harper - and who knows, maybe Joe piggot!

If I had to vote for one player it would be Jackson. My heart used to sink when I saw his name on team sheet, or coming on as a sub, now it skips a beat and I feel sorry for the poor defenders. Chaplin was already a fantastic player, but it’s great to see the end product in recent times. Ladapo now does a really good job up front, but sometimes I wonder whether I’m a more natural goal scorer - and I’m terrible in front of goal as some may know.
