If Leicester go down, which is now highly likely, I just can’t see them selling him to us, not because they don’t want to sell but because we are a direct rival.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his loan contract contained an agreed sell price when his loan officially finished.

As much as we love our club, we won’t be seen as a direct rival by them, or many neutrals. They were recently playing in Europe and will looking for an immediate return. We just played Fleetwood having not played at this level for 4 years

We rate Hirst highly, but he has never cut it at championship level (in his limited experience). Why on earth would a club with Leicesters recent pedigree and ambition hang their hat on a player that’s had limited success in the championship? They will be looking for someone with a more reliable goal return..

And good luck to them, it’s what ‘big’ clubs do.. overlook good untested/unproven players already in the building, so I think there is a genuine opportunity that a sensible 7 figure sum would tempt them so they can reinvest in some lower Prem/Championship journeymen.

You need to replace big with ‘clubs with parachute payment money’

There has to be a strong chance even if they reloan him to protect the potential value. That would be a win for them, tested at a club that will play him in Champ. Value increases and costs covered. If his value doesn’t increase at least the costs were covered. It’s our loss if they won’t sell and we continue to develop him, but if he delivers it’s all good only we aren’t handing the appreciating asset.

I don't really see this argument. So, they'll only sell to Premiership or L1 clubs? They already agreed a permanent deal with Blackburn and I think it'll be one of the easier transfers that Ashton will do this summer.

Leicester will have their own targets to fit in with (new?) management so I'm sure they'd rather have the money in the bank.

I don't think it'll make a blind bit of difference. He's earning a fair wedge and is precisely the sort of player they'll need to offload, they won't see him as good enough to take them back up (rightly or wrongly) and they won't want to be paying him £20k a week to occasionally sit on the bench. If they want to offload him then it's going to have to be to a Championship side as no League 1 side will be able to afford the fee or wages involved and no Prem side will be interested.

Phil said he asked that and was told there was no clause
