There is much more. The above is what is relevant to the article (Independent). The inquiry has been running since June 2022. The reluctance to release this material has only now arisen, in response to further damaging material recently handed to the police.
It should be borne in mind that the terms of reference for this inquiry were drawn up by this same government. Rather like inviting the police to search your house for a stolen car, but they must not look in the garage.

£9Bn that could have been used for building new hospitals. My NHS Trust uses buildings for clinical services that date back to 1837 - before Queen Victoria. Yet we are still waiting to hear when we will get a new hospital.
There need to be criminal investigations into the crooks that were running government under Johnson. |  |

Hancock issued an open invitation to anyone who could supply PPE to name their price and it would be paid.
Just need to know if anyone pointed out to Government that they were being scammed. This government, or rather the civil service leaks like a sieve so something is sure to come out. |  |

Yes, it did rather mislead - apologies, it was just the way it came out, not intentional (as if  ).
Comment this afternoon from "The Sunday Times’s Harry Yorke has an interesting point on the Cabinet Office’s latest statement that it doesn’t have Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages or notebooks.
It has already said that some of the material is “unambiguously irrelevant”, which would be hard to know if they didn’t have the messages and WhatsApps to start off with."
After the Sars outbreak, stocks of PPE and other equipment were built up and kept in readiness. After a number of years (2010 onwards) of Tory government, these stocks were allowed to shrink, By letting stocks be used and not replaced. The money saved was then allocated elsewhere, and claimed as 'new' money ie 40 new hospitals.
When COVID broke in Jan/FEB 2020 the above failure was exposed., Johnson's infinitival response was to dismiss it as flu, then avoided 5 major COBRA meetings before skipping off on holiday for 12 days. It was left to those who had entered Parliament, not to help others, but to help themselves....... to spot a 'nice little earner'. That 'earner' was kept to a small number by the use of a VIP lane. Something that in January 2022 was ruled by the High Court as unlawful.
I suspect these with held messages may well throw a light on to who was involved, what monies were paid and the total incompetence of the government of the time.

So the evidence/messages does not exist........so claim the government
It does exist say the government's lawyers, as they were given it.....by the government

What court, which is what an inquiry is, would it be up to witnesses and those accused to decide what evidence is elevant ? Leaving aside the disturbing claim that the executive is only accountable to itself, just what is in these messages that is so important that this unprecedented action is being tried ?
As until that evidence is produced, the question 'what are they hiding' will hang over the government. | | | |
