Probably the single hardest thing I've ever had to face, as KJ and I had our little boy born sleeping. I know it's a personal thing, so sorry for that, but you have always been so supportive on here on what remains a very tough day to cope with.

Never got to know you, but never forgotten. Always loved.

Happy Birthday CT.

Love, Daddy xx

Will be up to spend some time with you later... sorry this is the closest I could get to a tractor!

As I've mentioned before I hate the expression 'it will get easier'. I know why people say it, but for me it's never been 'easier', it's more a case of you accept the situation and somehow learn to continue living your life. Mrs Bloom eventually stopped writing birthday cards but we still have a shoebox in the loft full of unopened birthday cards. A lot of people thought she was insane for continuing to write them and was refusing to 'move on', what they never understood is writing those cards actually helped her move on. We've accepted life was/is never going to be the same, but we still had to have her in our lives and Mrs B writing birthday cards was part of that process.

Thoughts are with you

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, everybody's coping mechanism is different - for example, KJ can't bring herself to go to the cemetery, even now, 8 yrs later, yet for me, I like to have that quiet time of "father/son" time, and I like to take a card up there for his birthday.

Yasmin asked me this morning if she could come too today, as she and her friends at school were also making a card, that she wanted to laminate for us to take up and put with the flowers. It doesn't get easier, and it's not a case of not moving on. We enjoy and celebrate the lives of our other children - Yasmin is constantly making us proud, as does my son, along with KJ's other two boys, but still wonder how CT would've been at 8 years old now. It's still a hard day, but I don't just sit and wallow - I've still joined in with some of the pun threads today (when wouldn't I?!) and have been warmed by the comments and care from people on this thread, but I've also had moments today when I've sobbed a bit too. I guess that's all part of the process as well.

I might've blubbed a little bit more...

When Yasmin came to my office after school for us to go to the cemetery, she'd made a card, and got a load of her year 6 group to sign it, including her teacher... they were so supportive of her too, as she'd said it was for her little brother that she'd never had a chance to play with!

Despite the heartbreaking sadness of the reason, that’s really lovely and made me smile. Thank you for sharing this.

Life can be cruel. Just surround yourself with the love and support of your family, and I'm sure your support and love will help them.
