Most likely to fill the “like having a new signing” role this season. on 18:14 - Jul 18 by Stewart27 | Do you mean 15 or so excellent matches where he was pivotal in midfield which resulted in us going top of the league prior to his injury? |
More about half of them when he played well and others when he (and Morsy) slowed the play right down by demanding he have the ball in the build-up, allowing the opposition team to settle into a defensive shape and we made hard work of breaking them down. He was the major culprit in our spell of games where we had duff results. The difference in the midfield between having him and Luongo in there was almost night and day.

Evans is a good player but I don’t think that he’s capable of playing at a high tempo.

The problem is that he was pivotal to an 8/10 team when it was competitive with the top 3 in L1. But then we were a 10/10 team who were unstoppable in L1 and he wasnt in it. The team has evolved its style and other options make it stronger. Not to mention that we are at a higher level now, plus that Evans was signed before McKenna had arrived and there was any sort of blueprint for how we were going to play. McKenna has used him well and I think might continue to use him in certain situations, but cant see him being a regular again.
