Its like last season all over again. Unfancied costal town beginning with p in first and a league 'giant' in second.

Good omens!

And, by my reckoning, we are already halfway to the points needed to avoid relegation...

45 is the usual target to avoid relegation, though at least one team in the last 10 years has gone down the pan with over 50. Regardless, assuming we need another 27 we are well on the way to achieving that first goal. It’s all good.

As delighted as I was to see that Nodge lost last night, kind of wish they had drawn and kept us in 2nd spot.

But yes for now Preston are the new Plymouth - however well Town do they just keep winning themselves and sitting 2/3 points above.

Town and Preston win the next three, and Leicester drop points.

October 7th. Packed Portman Rd. Town come out all guns blazing and score in the second minute. The team manages the game superbly as they did against Southampton except this time they have found their shooting mojo and are clinical as fook, picking off Preston to win 4-0.

Going into the October international break, Town are top of the table with Preston two behind in second.

Yeh I know, shurrup, one game at a time.

True, I had misremembered last season's Championship table - but we are 40% of the way there...

I was thinking that yesterday funny enough. Preston seem to be this season's Plymouth Argyle. Hopefully with the same outcome (us both getting promotion at the end!)

We are!! Tbh being a glass half full kinda person, that target is all I’m looking at for the moment. But 40% there already, I couldn’t be happier.

The fear was always how good are we? Can our absurd form last 15 games in L1 transfer itself to the Championship? Would the gap be too much to bridge? Would momentum dribble away?

McKenna and many on here are right. There is a big gap. But we don’t look out of place, do we? I don’t think our forwards are truly firing yet either. If nothing else, this week has shown the squad has a bit of depth to it.

Starting at Southampton without Walton, Davis, Broadhead and Luongo: if I’d known we would do that at the start of the season it’d have been a ‘hope we can keep the score down to a respectable level’ job. To go there and win? Boom.

I don’t care what problems Saints have at the moment, that was a great result and following the other games this season, to say we look decent at this level is an understatement.

At one nil up I was thinking I wouldn't be too disheartened if we drew or even narrowly lost, because we didn't look out of place or out of our depth. Quite the opposite.

Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I'd take 2nd if offered now.

If we're in the top two come the October international break, which is not a totally unreasonable projection, I'll start to dream.

I certainly think we are in with a shout. We've played some of the fancied teams in the championship and acquitted ourselves well. But yeah, I daren't get too excited in September. See where we are at the halfway point. If we are still among the top teams I think we can begin to dream.

It's where you are coming out of January really, but I'll honestly find it impossible not to get excited if we're around the top in mid October.

And then of course we'll lose one then draw one and I'll stop thinking about it that much or coming on here :)

I thought you were a touch harsh on the geography!

Im going to add a league giant, heavily tipped to win the division and play in blue and white, in second.

I don't see Leicester as a Giant! I remember the days going to Filbert st, they are not a bigger club than we are imo

I remember the Filbert Street days too. No, they are not a ‘giant’. They are very much a similar club to ourselves. It’s the parachute money that distorts it and allows them to have what will probably be the best team in the Championship this year.

In my opinion the term ‘giant’ is reserved for the obvious clubs in the PL.

I put it into inverted commas to suggest that's how others perceive them, in the same way Sheff Wed were last year.

To be fair they are a big club in this league given they won the PL not so long back.

That league giant also has a player called Kiernan Kiernan-Dewsbury-Dewsbury-Hall in the middle who can do no wrong.

I guess he's mates with Barry-Barry-Bannan?
