Howard Webb was on MNF a few months ago showing a few clips of VAR conversations and I remember at the time thinking the communication system seemed a total mess. Last nights release confirms this - there is no way there hasn't been numerous other miscommunications and wrong decisions that were quickly known and subsequently brushed under the carpet.

It seems ridiculous that they need so many people communicating and talking over one another. The footage sounds like a bunch of teenagers with headsets playing a game of Call of Duty. Got to feel a bit sorry for the ref on the pitch who seems to have constant wittering in his ear whilst he is trying to officiate the game. I'd hate it if it was me in that scenario.

Agree on the ref stance however it's a bit disrespectful to the teenagers on COD to compare them to the VAR communicators

A friend who knows about managing radio comms said that if any other organisation, eg, police, military, air traffic control, etc, where there is also time pressure, communicated like that (though obviously more life and death involvement), there would be absolute chaos - he basically said, it has to be run like a military operation, standardised clear instructions and responses and lots of confirmatory repeats...

Just one small problem; sell their houses to who, Ben? Fcking Aquaman?
Poll: What else could go on top of the cake apart from icing and a cherry?

Why does it appear to be beyond the wit of reason for the VAR centre to conclude any review with a clear and concise:

"No infringements. Goal."

or

"[State infringement]. No goal."

The FA need to look at how it is managed with Reviewed decisions in cricket.

The Video Umpire begins by stating eg

"Review for LBW. Original Decision: Not Out."

And then works through a flowchart of things to consider, in a prescribed order, clearly announcing each one in turn and then giving the decision back to the standing Umpire.

A similar flowchart and standard script would help to restore confidence in VAR.

"Good process guys" after one of the worst blunders of all time.

They idea that they can't stop the game and correct that is wrong (the laws clearly need a tweak).

Nothing material had happened between KO and identifying the blunder. Call them back, award the goal, spurs kick off. Easy

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

Exactly.

Even if it's technically forbidden by the rules, nobody would be castigating them for owning the error and stopping play.

Agree completely. If that is technically forbidden then call the managers / captains to one side, explain the situation and let Diaz walk the ball into an empty net unopposed. Would be far more respect for the officials if they had thought on their feet and 'undone' the errror.

Who gave these jokers the job? Seriously unprofessional. Can’t believe they’ve not had a proper check list put in place. No wonder there have been so many issues. Football could do well to watch the NFL and how they operate.
