Australia losing heavily to SA means England really need to beat Australia, Sri Lanka and at least one of Pakistan, South Africa and India (as well as winning against Afghanistan, Netherlands and Bangladesh which they should do). Or are there going to be some surprising results?

We can probably afford to lose 3 games I would suggest, Australia look really poor, I can see them losing to one of the minnows at some stage
We have generally had the better of South Africa in the last decade or so but they look a decent side
India look in good shape, they'll be hard to stop
Pakistan are massively unpredictable so who knows what you will get with them. As long as we beat Australia and everyone else we probably should beat, I suspect we will be alright |  |

I'm not going to argue with that, and was only really talking about a point in time. It's rare to see Aussie being humbled and as a proud Pom I like to revel in the fact, I'm still pleasantly surprised that the Ashes weren't all over by the third Test if I'm honest.
Australia will be back with a vengeance, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy their misery, while completely empathising with them. | |

We have already lost one of those three. I would expect India to beat us and South Africa looked a good side against Australia. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have conditions that suit them. It will be very tricky to make the top four. I suspect there will be an upset at some stage but hopefully it will hit Australia or one of the others rather than us.
I think we might need to make sure we win the one-sided contests heavily and avoid any more heavy defeats to ensure we have the better NRR.
On balance, I guess we want India to win today as we can afford three sides to finish above us but wouldn't want Pakistan to join in. | |
