Maurice Steijn sacked... 18:00 - Oct 23 with 2387 viewsjasondozzell

Seems like a different lifetime that we were wondering if he was on his way here...

He won't be out of work for long. Good coach. Ajax are in a little bit of a mess at the moment, but not all down to Maurice. You can't always sell your best players and still expect to compete at the top. They will bounce back, obviously, but not an easy job that one at the moment.

He seems a very interesting choice at the time.

As much as I adore Kuqi as a player and human being, his scheduled interview where he said he would be the perfect Ipswich manager as he loves the club is worse during that period

Sounds like a nightmare and not at all all down to him as you say. I hope they do bounce back. Have always had a soft spot for Ajax. Loved Ten Hag's 2019 champions League side - brilliant football.

Yes! I was excited - especially after being linked to the usual suspects, Steijn seemed a breath of fresh air. Also something about Town and the Dutch connection...

Still, we've finally got it right with KMac!

Which he never was, there was never any contact with him, was purely rumour.

Which of our many occurrences of the managerial vacancy was he linked with?

People got ahead of themselves didn't they. Wonder how the rumour started?

I have an idea. Think his name was mentioned to someone here by some Dutch Town fans and it grew from there. Club was perplexed by it and keen to put it to bed.

There is one way to be certain that it was just a rumour. One of your better ones, Phil, had a lot of us hoping it was true at the time.

Right! Thanks for clearing up, Phil. It did seem to get huge amounts of traction bizarrely.Perhaps more of an indication of desperation at the time for something different and more modern after Paul (the first) and Mick.

It did. I think a Dutch manager held its attractions.

At least it was a nice rumour. The fact that the club were perplexed by it and keen to put it to bed is probably one of the best descriptive narratives of where we were at the time.

Exactly. Evans no doubt still in a huff that his hand had been forced on Mick.

The thing is, if he was a business genius, why wasn't he trying to understand where he was going wrong? I know he didn't want to throw more money in but for a business guru he seemed pretty resistant to trying anything different or questioning the strategy. Why not try and up and coming foreign coach?

At least he did the right thing when he sold and chose sound buyers and wrote off the debt. I think he was a decent bloke all in all but just totally unprepared for football ownership.
