Didn't keep wickets in hand and now Windies are favourites having done so and needing 41 off 4 overs.

West Indies, denied the opportunity to beat England along with the rest of the world during the WC, get in on the act today.

Don't seem to be able to build an innings. It is like we just try to score as quickly as possible and can't build a foundation and then accelerate.

batting wise we did ok I thought, at one point we were heading for barely 300, ticking over at less than 6 runs per over. so they accelerated at the end. highest run chase on this ground, youd fancy winning from that position surely ? I just dont think we bowled well enough, we bowled the spinners out too soon, the seamers were missing their mark too often, Harry Brook can bowl an over or two, just to give you more options at the end of the game, but Jos backed into a corner and ends up forced to pick the most expensive bowlers at the death.

Scores are getting bigger now. It is the loss of early wickets that makes it looks like we won't make 300 and then we have to dig in and run out of batting at the end. Look at how South Africa and India did it every match. I bet they had some of the lower totals after 25 overs but virtually always had 8 or more wickets in hand. I bet they scored more than pretty much anyone in the final 10 overs. Probably Australia were the same once they sorted themselves out. The problem is that one day internationals need more of a test match approach to begin with. Keep the wickets in hand.

Yep. I'd sooner be 130/2 off 25 overs than 170/5.

True but there's context to this, we were playing the West Indies, they didn't qualify for the world cup, they're ranked 10th, they're at such a low ebb at the moment the local support didnt turn up for game in great numbers because they thought they'd be beaten easily, and then England score the highest ODI total at the ground ever, prior to that game only 3 times had any team got above 300. 325 was a very winnable score to defend, but England didn't bowl well enough, the commentators said they looked rusty, having not played a warm up game together since they formed as a squad. So presumably by Wednesday they'll be a bit more on it, but id be surprised if they suddenly hit 400+, it will be another 300+ game with the emphasis on defending the runs scored and taking wickets
