Quite an attractive proposition to be fair. Well funded, big club, not doing great this year but I don't see them in genuine danger of relegation. Potentially a very solid premier league club. I think there's only a handful of clubs we're exposed to, they're probably one of them.

I don't know whether I have my bluest tinted glasses on but I don't see Forest as being that bigger than us. Obviously we're in a different division currently but those positions could be reversed at the end of the season. I think we're safe for the time being, especially where we are.

I think it is quite generous to call Forest a middling PL club. They've been up there one season after just about staying up last year. They've spent a hell of a lot of money to end up with a poor squad for that level. On paper, they are the 4th worse side in that division for me. For McKenna, not sure what he could achieve there really. Is there more kudos and reputation enhancement for keeping them up or taking us up?

Perhaps it is generous right now. I do think they have the potential to be though, under the right manager and with another window or 2. There's no reason why they can't pull themselves above the likes of Wolves, Palace, Bournemouth etc in terms of their standing at that level. They're in horrible form but it wasn't too long ago they were beating Chelsea away or Villa (which looks a better result by the week). They've thrown a lot of mud at the wall over the past 2 summer windows and some if it definitely hasn't stuck, but I do think they've got some quality there. Some good young players too in Gibbs-White, Elanga, Sangare, Danilo. Awoniyi is serious player as well. They're a big club.

I think McKenna would back himself to improve them, you want a bit of upside potential in a new role as well. Hopefully he sees Town as a project he wants to see a bit further though, we're certainly in a great place by way of league position that would make this a hard job to step away from.

Think McKenna is very high on Forest's list (not saying I think he'd go).

If Forest are a "big club", then so are Town, Wednesday, Stoke, Leicester, Birmingham, Leeds, Southampton, WBA, Sunderland etc. All of those would be sustainable in the PL given some fortune. They are a marginally better bet than the likes of Burnley, Bournemouth & a few of the other PL lesser lights.

I think a general view among Forest fans is that it's a pretty difficult place to work, with many competing interests off the pitch which Steve Cooper was doing incredibly well to hold all together.

I think those are the sort of things which will make retaining McKenna if they come sniffing much easier as he has a very good set up here where he is the main man in most areas

Depends on your definition I guess, and that's an argument as old as time. But they've won the European Cup twice, only Man United and Liverpool have won it more from the English clubs. Won the league, FA and League cups multiple times. Big city, rich history, Premier league status. I would say they're light years ahead of most of those you've named if you're talking big clubs. They're probably close to the top 10 in the country on balance, all they're missing is a bit of recency bias and a few more years in the Premier League.

You are right it depends how you define it. I don't really like looking at trophies won decades ago. A lot of people struggle to define Brentford or Brighton as 'big clubs' but they are a bigger threat for taking McKenna off us. In terms of off field infrastructure and on field performance, Brighton in particular are now lightyears ahead of the likes of Forest, us, Sheffield Wednesday etc.

I like looking at trophies won decades ago, but that's maybe because of who we support! I do think it's a factor though, albeit one of many. Brighton is another one I would be worried about, if De Zerbi gets nabbed. They've got a track record of good recruitment, and McKenna would be another example of that if they came sniffing.

While we're 2nd in the league I think we're probably well(ish) protected. Wouldn't be an easy call for KM to step away from what he's doing here by any stretch. If we tailed off and it coincided with interest from further up the food chain then it might be a slightly different story, but here's hoping we don't.

Agreed. Obviously I don't know McKenna's mind, but I think it's a much bigger risk that he might go to one of the clubs you mentioned, rather than take on a fire-fighting role at Forest, Palace or whoever.
