McKenna felt he could step up in the summer otherwise we wouldn’t have had 2 offers turned down for him.

Although I appreciate our start to the season may have changed our targets etc.

If McKenna goes back in for him then I'll trust his judgement, but Bishop just doesn't seem to be the profile of player we tend to spend decent money on and from what I've seen he doesn't obviously look like anything more than a good League 1 striker. If McKenna sees something in him then I'll back him, but I'd be surprised if Bishop comes here.

His not a centre forward il get ridiculed but Bishop at Portsmouth fits better in the Hirst role.

I went to Cheltenham vs Pompey yesterday, ticking off another for 92 and taking a proper look at Bishop.

I wrote notes on him, but Ill save typing and you reading to just say he was dog poo. Blowing after 20mins and all the sophistication in his play of Dean Windass. We need and can do so much better.

On Blue Monday's latest podcast they had a guy from a Rovers podcast on who said words to the effect they'd take £7m for Szmodics. Thats a bargain surely?! They need to sell to improve the squad as Venky's can only get enough money out of India to keep the lights on, so Blackburn aren't in a place to play hardball. Would love to see us show some real ambition a la Stewart in 2000. Also my tin hatted nature is starting to wonder if FFP is a convenient excuse for the owners to protect their investment in an Evans stylee. No evidence or ITK of that but my brain does wander somewhat.

Finally, one that I havent seen mentioned online but I think is a great shout is Liam Delap. Physical and skillful. Im dreaming I know, but Szmodics and Ronnie Edwards on perm, Delap and Stansfield on loan is both achievable and would be a real statement of intent.

Signing Szmodics and Edwards permanently would cost an absolute fortune and would be blowing more than our budget on two players who play in positions where we don't have a great need for new players. Really can't see it.

My thinking too, £7M is huge for our profit and sustainability column (instinctively). Some have talked about breaking our transfer record twice this window - I'm both impressed and surprised that we're in such rude health - but I can only see it happening in the areas where we're crying out for players.

Think if we spend biggish on a fee it's going to be on a striker. I really can't see us spending £7m this window in total though, let alone on one player who plays in a position where we've got lots of options.

What Im thinking is the philosophy espoused by Ben Bloom previously - spend big now and if we go up that clears the debt, if we dont we clear it by selling Leif

Having read Dom Ball's book over Christmas, him and Szmodics are friendly from when Dom was at Peterborough on loan, been on holiday together afterwards even. Also I imagine Jack Taylor and Szmodics would know each other?

The summary I've put together is that he felt the one-way derby keenly from his Colchester days and carried that onto Peterborough, so has loved a goal against us through his career, but it's of the healthy panto variety and he'd likely love to come here if he could, with family still near Colchester. But he's a valuable asset of theirs in a well-subscribed position of ours, and P&S rules are not to be trifled with. Summer it is then 😃

If we aren’t promoted he’s probably the type of player we should be signing.
