Suffolk Artist 08:50 - Jan 18 with 5488 viewsyorkshireblue

I moved house a few months ago and am reliable informed that we need something to hang on a large wall we have.

I like the idea of having something from a Suffolk artist (to offset my Yorkshire stone house, in Yorkshire...) but literally have no idea where to start looking. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I know nothing about art or photgraphy so no idea what style etc. we'd be looking for - think I fall into the "I'll know it when I see it" bucket, which isn't helpful...

My own favourite is Michael Coulter, who has a unique style and displays gentle humour in everything he does. I have several originals by him and they have proved an excellent investment, if that appeals.

A couple I can recommend for different reasons:

Ian Moore (Woodbridge area) https://suffolkartists.co.uk/index.cgi?choice=painter&pid=2459
Joe Crowfoot (Beccles area) https://suffolkartists.co.uk/index.cgi?choice=painter&pid=1756

I know there is a Town fan by the name of Roger Kent who photographs and paints wildlife (some local, some from Africa) but can't see anywhere he advertises - he is on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100013500671369&sk=photos

I bought a couple of small oil paintings for the parents some years ago by John Burman. They were about £150 each but are well painted. There is also a painting of Woodbridge Tide Mill by Phyllis Morgans which isn’t bad. Probably worth about £100.

If you are thinking about going for a more contemporary piece, I can recommend Emma Green. She is a local artist based near Woodbridge. I have a couple of paintings by her that are inspired by the Suffolk coast.

My parents also had a small painting by Phyllis Morgans of Walberswick, and it is tucked away somewhere in the loft.

If you are after something ITFC themed then Jessica Sian has an amazing illustration of Portman Road available:

Based in Essex rather than Suffolk but a former season ticket holder and town fan through and through. Bonus points for her refusal to do an illustration of Carrow Road!
