Andre Dozzell going to Birmingham on 09:28 - Jun 9 by itfcjoe | He’s certainly a seasoned EFL player and will find another club relatively easily, but prob a player who isn’t going to be more than player that flits between the top of L1 and the botttom of the Champ but that’s still a fantastic achievement and prob ours him in the best 300 or so English footballers I’d disagree with parts of the bottom and agree with parts - but Downes wasn’t as good as Dozzell was and pushed on from there but both were England internationals. Dozzell was playing a year up for England though and winning a European championships. The age group around Dozzell here has a good 8 or 9 players still making a good living from the game |
Dozzell has always been more of a lightweight than the terrier-like Downes so no wonder that the former flourished in teenage football, where physicality isn't a big factor. I think Dozzell is likely to do better in the Championship than League ! as much of the football in the lower league is long ball, physical dross, which won't really suit him.

Andre Dozzell going to Birmingham on 23:33 - Jun 8 by itfcsuth | AD is what I have seen in academies so many times before, technically gifted, but could not transition to men’s first team football. Looks really good at youth football, that lack of competitiveness and aggression suited the way he plays the game, but failed to make the transition to the men’s game. He’s not the first and won’t be the last. |
Can't agree with this. There are under 300 English players in the Premier League, and only just over 400 in The Championship. It is unbelievably competitive. These players are astonishingly good to make it to that level. Dozzell Jr been playing Championship & League One football for 9 years, and regularly for 6 of those. That is a proper career. He transitioned, and at a very early age too. He hasn't hit the heights. Not many do. And I wish he was way better, he's 'one of us' - it would be great to be able to revel in him having greater success. But he has a lot more about him than lots on here like to claim. Managers pick on merit. 200 games says it all.
