The awards dinner and this group of players and staff 10:26 - May 7 with 3007 views | Muncher | I was lucky enough to book a table at the awards dinner last night as a present for my Dad's 70th birthday and it turned out to be an utterly surreal experience in view of the way the way the season ended and the celebrations throughout the day. This group of players and staff are truly exceptional, not only on the pitch but they are absolutely first class individuals off the pitch. Every single one of them was engaging, down to earth and more than willing to sign things and pose for photos. Many seemed truly grateful that the fans wanted to engage with them, they were impecably polite and humble and a credit to themselves. This isn't a normal club and these aren't a normal group of footballers. There is a lot of talk about having the right characters in the dressing room but it was so clear to see last night. I'm fortunate to know Kieran reasonably well having worked for him since he first came to the club and it was good to catch up with him again last night , everything about him and the way he conducts himself oozes class, along with the rest of his team just a thoroughly nice down to earth bloke. I reminded him that this time last year I sent him a message to say I fully expected us to be in the same position at the end of the championship season and here we are. This time I said I'd settle for European football, so no pressure! I'd urge you all if you can to watch it back on Town TV, the speaches from Ashton and Kieran are well worth the watch. It's difficult to see how the club can be any better position than it is now, but hopefully we will be saying just that this time next year.

And as I've heard from others I know who were there, not one of them complained, and were a credit to themselves and ITFC.

The awards dinner and this group of players and staff on 10:39 - May 7 with 2776 views | DinnernotTea | Brilliant to read. In your opinion, do you think McKenna stays this summer? Has he ever indicated when a bigger offer comes in he will want to give it a go? Obviously not as direct as that but you know. Does he enjoy Suffolk life? He's only lived in major cities in football so does he miss that buzz? Basically I'm panicking because he's a God and a freak of nature.

I suppose you can never completely rule anything out but I don't think he's going anywhere any time soon. He's very settled with his family here, he enjoys living in the area, his brother is here now too. He came in viewing this as a long term project and I don't think anything has changed. He's got a great relationship with Ashton, he's got his staff in place and is able to leave a real mark on the place and build a legacy. He's fiercely ambitious and clearly wants to manage right at the top of the game and no doubt will one day but he's also extremely calculated and methodical and at the moment we can offer him everything he needs. He's clearly one of the hottest prospects in managment right now, but equally I would say we are probably one of the best clubs to manage right now as well.

That last sentence is pretty nuts isn't it. With every step forward we take the pool of clubs that represent a clear step up diminishes. There's a lot of value in being settled, family being happy, having job security etc in such a fickle industry, and its clearly a good fit. There comes a point where its worth rolling the dice on all that and starting again if it's for a Man United or whatever, but while we're in the premier league its debatable if it would be worth it for a Palace or even a Wolves or Everton right now IMO.

Yes, people would do well to remember your last sentence.

I have mentioned this already, but you just have to look at the paths, Robson, Mourinho and Ferguson (Alex) took into management. They all took a smaller club, built them up, and won a trophy (European). I know this is high expectations, but he has time to build, make some mistakes along the way, and he knows he has a tidal wave of support behind him. When he no doubt moves to a top European club, he will have that experience behind him, the big players will immediately respect him. This feeling, this wave of support can take us a very long way. Other teams fans will no doubt think we have lost our minds even suggesting something like this, they will all be expecting us to get relegated next season, but the truth is, we know what is happening to our club, its a feeling, it has no logic, but it is there. We all know what it is possible, we have done it before, and I believe we will do it again.

For me it's still surreal considering the twenty years of pain, false dawns, stymied hope, and eventual hopeless malaise. I can't believe it tbh, and I'm still getting goosebumps and a little tearful simply reading posts like yours.
