Most tournaments seem to pan out this way.
1. Group Stages - Football fan interest only - England go out in disgrace 2010 / 2014 or go through to group stages.
2. A weekend knock out match in nice weather finally captures the imagination of the pub going fan. England win and euphoria kicks in and the media go overboard.
