An evening with Warnock 05:46 - Jun 8 with 3424 viewsUSA

Anyone else go to the Regent last night? Warnock is great and you can see why he had success as I bet he’s up there as one of the best man managers, but I left last night a bit disappointed really.

Sure there were a few funny stories but very few real insights or juicy stories that were shared. I was expecting and hoping to hear more about behind the scenes on football. You know things like what players he missed out on and why, who he fell out with and why (he did touch on Alex Ferguson) and generally hearing some more gritty behind the scenes stories. Warnock alluded to one or two things but shied away from the good stuff.

Came across great but I did leave a little flat as I’d been hoping for more.

A very interesting evening, came across he nearly managed Ipswich only for Marcus Evans to eventually go for Keane Managed 16 clubs in his career but cannot imagine McKenna flying off at his players in the way Warnock did…..

I have to agree. I left feeling thoroughly underwhelmed really. The format was pants. Basically just a Wikipedia run through his career.

Plus, all of the bloody anecdotes featured on talksport in the morning show! He didn't give any insightful tidbits.

Great career, crap show.

I thought he was brilliant and really enjoyed it, but as you say no real juicy stuff, but overall I thought it was great. Interesting that he was offered the Chelsea job but decided to stay at Notts County then got sacked 6 month's later.

It wasn't the best show ever, but I wasn't shocked either. Was a nice evening of an old fella telling stories - something I miss a lot.

An overrated raconteur as well as manager then. Yeh right anyone and everyone charging for "An evening with..." Though it's up to folk how they spend their cash I guess. Nowt as queer as folk innit.

Really don't get the love in for Colin.

I had an enjoyable evening.

£36, excellent value - and Sitters bought me a glass of wine.

Super night.

Just a heavy dose of nostalgia for a manager type who doesn't really exist anymore, mix into that he's been around a fair old time and is a mellow old man now. Shouldn't change the fact that he was a middle of the road dirty long ball merchant who would send his players out to do a hatchet job on more skillful teams. But even I find myself falling for it more than I should sometimes.

I haven't ever attended any of these functions where ex-footballers talk about the past, but my impression from friends who have is that they usually regurgitate the same cliched, probably apocryphal stories which have been heard many times before. If I heard Warnock, I'd like to hear him honestly say if he was deliberately trying to get the infamous "battle of Bramall Lane abandoned, for example.
I've been to several cricket dinners with an ex Test player speaking & I've generally enjoyed these, partly because they are usually boozy evening but more because the slower rhythm of cricket lends itself better to funny stories, although again some of them are recycled with a different player's name dropped in.

He was indeed all but a Town manager. The reason he wasn’t was because Evans wouldn’t pay the associated compensation … Keane had none . Cheap option yet again by Evans.
