In the meantime, Charlie Brown and his family have earnt more money than they would ever have done otherwise.

Not quite set for life, but a massive help along the way.

I guess what the Town academy would have paid them would have been peanuts by comparison

100% this. My boy had to join the scum set up as there wasn't one at ipswich at the time. The pain and suffering of seeing him play in those colours.

My lad's academy side comprehensively dismantled their Nodge counterparts earlier this season.

Not ashamed to say I celebrated every goal.

Loudly.

More and more of it happening now, last year there were masses of transfers at U16 level (including us losing Callum Logan to Spurs), most of it between cat 1 academies.

This year it has got younger, and will be ~30 U14s moving between academies as parents know it is much easier to pull them now rather than sign a pre-scholarship

So does it not then beg the question as to whether the academy is worth having? If the best players are never going to play for the first team because they get poached by the big wigs (which we will never stop from happening) what is the point of the investment?

You just have to make sure your offering makes them want to stay - the only team who got rid of their academy is Brentford (an d possibly Huddersfield) and are in much different situations to us where they have massive clubs on their literal doorstep

Do you think being an established Prem team will make us more attractive for players to stay and fight their way into the first team or does that create more exposure and thus mean we are even more likely to lose them?
