The current squad 11:22 - Jun 14 with 5856 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | I just saw this on EADT. We already know it's a big window but when you see it on paper like this, it really does make you think how much work we will have to do this summer to bridge a gap in quality. 16 senior players: GK: Walton RB: Clarke CB: Woolfenden, Burgess, Tuanzebe, Edmundson LB: Davis CM: Morsy, Luongo, Taylor RW: Burns AMC: Chaplin LW: Broadhead, Harness ST: Hirst, Al-Hamadi I would also argue that Edmundson may well be moved on in a one in, one out scenario and Al-Hamadi will probably get loaned out to a bottom half Championship side for crucial minutes.

The current squad on 11:31 - Jun 14 by IPSWICHFANITFC | I think Harness will stay. He will be in the 25 man squad but I think his opportunities in the matchday squad will be very limited and only really getting in through injuries. Walton might be another who goes, especially if Hladky signs a new deal. I've seen Rushworth at Brighton being mentioned but if Hladky doesn't sign, then Walton will stay for this season. |
Harness will stay unless the player himself thinks he wants to move on to play more. The more established players we have about, the quicker any new additions get up to speed with how we play. Given Harness can play in various positions, it seems daft to discard him now. There was this exact same conversation about Jackson this time last year. Nothing wrong with keeping good, hard working honest professionals in a 25 man squad.

The current squad on 14:34 - Jun 14 by Marshalls_Mullet | I don't think Ali will be loaned. If he was, I don't think a lower Champ loan would help him, given that he performed well (given his injury) in a promotion side. 4 goals in 281 minutes aint bad. [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 15:59]

I mean that would be bad...

The current squad on 14:57 - Jun 14 by ReusersTown | We want him to develop though, and it takes games to do that, which you'd assume he's unlikely to get here straight away. It's the whole point of the loan system! |
That is the point for young players who have had little or no senior football. Thats not the case for AAH. Players can also develop by staying with their club under excellent coaches.

The current squad on 14:41 - Jun 14 by IPSWICHFANITFC | He's here for the long term but he needs to play games. Next season can't be about sitting on the bench and picking up the odd minute here and there. A decent loan move next season to a club like Millwall would be beneficial all round. Go and score 15 goals in the Championship and play regularly. Come back next summer and be part of the squad. |
Players can develop at their own club. I also think that if he was sent on loan, he should go to a top half championship club, rather than lower champ club as was originally suggested. I dont think he'll go on loan.

The current squad on 14:58 - Jun 14 by tractorboy1978 | Think you have to be very careful with him. Ultimately we want him playing 40 games in a team that plays in a similar way to us to make it worth it. Does going and playing in a pragmatic system for someone like Harris benefit him more than being around better players and being coached by an elite manager like McKenna every day? |
Indeed. He would be better staying and developing with us than going to a poor Champ team.

You’re being a bit obtuse? All I am trying to point out that the situation now is exactly the same as it was this time last year - and the year before. 9 players in through the revolving door, half of whom will be duds, one of whom will be rented to Cambridge after a few weeks seems par for the course. In previous decades when a football club played at Portman Road the ‘supporters’ used to identify with ‘their’ team. Nowadays they seem to want them out and enthuse about new signings - and rented mercenaries. The downside of renting and ignoring your academy is that it’s kind of Groundhog Day at this time of year.

Is he good enough to play regularly at a top half Champ side? He’s only really got credit in League 2. He hasn’t done anything to justify top half Championship interest on loan for me. As a striker, it doesn’t matter where you go as much in terms of style. The goal posts don’t move and if you’re good enough then you’ll score goals. Blackburn weren’t great but Sammie Szmodics went and scored 30 goals. He’s a long term investment but he has to develop properly through playing games.

Doesn't it really depend on what type of player we want him to be. If its trying to use him as a hirst alternative then he needs games and lots of them to develop that role. However if its just be a nuisance, High press and in the box striker then imo you don't need to send him out to develop that.
