Some good news to start the weekend 12:15 - Jun 14 with 6351 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

Just been offered my dream job.

I am now an odds compiler for a betting firm with their office based next to Sandown Racecourse where I am now. I’m to be the trader (in a team of 5) that prices up the horses along with a few smaller sports.

I’m over the moon

Half a decade a go I put a post on here asking for some interview advice, popped back and said I got the job and I remember you being the first to congratulate me.... Shame others have beat me to it, but glad I am able to repay and congratulate you this time round! Well Done!

Little update three days in.. it’s class. I knew it would be interesting but it’s so much fun. Changing the odds for horses getting backed etc. Yesterday as well as a horse meeting and three dogs meetings, I was in charge of the in play for the two 5pm games in the euros. I went top price on Holland (11/10 when it was generally 19/20 everywhere) and would then be changing the odds to reflect what was happening. I suspended the markets in time when each goals went in (tv screens are a few seconds behind our feed obviously).

Also had a horse on my meeting yesterday be backed from 40s into 4/1 (everywhere else it was 40s too but was 5/1 max half an hour later between 10 to 10:30) which was interesting. I had the option to hedge some liabilities off as we’d had two hefty bets at 40s. I chose not to in the belief it would drift and then gleefully watched as it drifted out to 21.0 on betfair exchange before the off, chose not to hedge and then subsequently watched it be beaten. Lovely stuff.

All in all, great fun. It really is.
